Last chance to comment on TfL's public consultation for Bakerloo Line extension proposals A Tower Bridge Road businessman has restated the case that the Bricklayers Arms roundabout “needs a tube station” to go with the planned Bakerloo Line Extension.

TfL’s preferred option for the £3billion Bakerloo extension – due for completion by 2029 – is to have two stations located along Old Kent Road, with another in New Cross and a fourth in Lewisham Town Centre.

Peter told councillors that if TfL could not be persuaded to locate their ventilation and emergency exit shaft away from the Bricklayers, then “we would ask that the council consider and press for an underground station be built there, so that local people can benefit from it”.

Sign our petition and take part in the public consultation to make sure that TfL know that a third station is critical to hundreds of people living in the local area.”

A TfL spokesman said: “We met with Caroline Pidgeon and the Southwark Liberal Democrats to discuss the Bakerloo line extension and our rationale for proposing two potential station locations on the Old Kent Road.

Three community groups have joined forces with politicians in a campaign to convince Transport for London to build a third tube station at Bricklayers Arms roundabout as part of the Bakerloo Line extension.

Earlier this year, TfL consulted on plans to build two tube stations on the Old Kent Road and a 25 metre-high ventilation shaft at Bricklayers Arms as part of plans for the £3billion extension.

Bermondsey Street Area Partnership, Tower Bridge Road Alliance, and Bricklayers Arms Tenants’ and Residents’ Association have now organised a rally for November 4.

“The Old Kent Road, New Kent Road and Tower Bridge Road need a transport hub to survive as an area.

Thousands have signed a petition demanding the £3.1billion extension to Lewisham includes a new station at the Bricklayers Arms roundabout between Elephant and Castle and Old Kent Road.

Transport for London, who will be handed the petition on Friday, is currently planning two stations on Old Kent Road, a stop at existing overground hub New Cross Gate and another in Lewisham.

Petition: Former Lib Dem MP Simon Hughes with Suhel Ahmed (left) of the Tower Bridge Alliance and London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon hand a previous petition to TfL (Southwark Lib Dems) Mr Ahmed, whose family have owned the restaurant for decades, added: “The rents are as high as areas that are fully developed because we're in Zone 1 and SE1, but there’s no transport hub here.”

Bakerloo line extension planned The Bricklayers Arms roundabout was initially proposed as one of two possible sites for a ventilation shaft for the new line, but not a station, the other being Faraday Gardens in Walworth.

Matthew Yates, TfL’s Head of Transport Planning and Projects, said:  “We did carefully consider the Bricklayers Arms junction as a possible station location for one of the Old Kent Road stations, but with insufficient unoccupied land available for construction and the area already well served by nearby Elephant Castle stations and local bus services, it was decided it wasn't suitable.
