i was lucky enough to be able to join the Howard’s folly Winemaker’s Dinner event, hosted by wine master DAVID Baverstock at VAGABON in Victoria … which was a 5 courses Portuguese tasting dinner, every dish being paired with a carefully selected portuguese wine… it was an evening of tasty food and wines as well as leaning a bit about it as well .
our evening started with a glass of bubbly and a chat to get to know everyone a bit better , approximatively 10 people , then we were seated … David made a little speech about the different wines we were going to enjoy with the food .
then things started to get real when the reds got in as i prefer red wines 😋, we enjoyed 3 different reds during the night , all from different years and i realised how much difference a year can do to the wine … the pairing with the dishes was flawless !
next was , the suckling pork belly , charred broccoli with the sanhador red from 2012 … this wine was just a year older than the previous one but the difference in taste was big with a fuller body and a sharp finish which was cutting it perfectly with a fattier piece of meat like pork belly 💯 now for the finally we had a selection of cheese , and a warm traditional pastel de nata , both paired with a sonhador reserva 2012 … this was the perfect way to finish a meal along with a very balanced red wine .
thanks to the vagabond team for this lovely portuguese tasting event , it was a highly enjoyable experience everything was tasty and the victoria restaurant has a great buzzing vibe i recommend everyone to check it out for a night out… and some small plates and cheese/ wines … they also have different restaurants around London so most likely have one close enough 😉 have a look on their website VAGABON WINES for the next tasting events if you would like to be a part of it next time…

The food quarter at Nova Victoria is coming on apace with more restaurants announced as well as the first opening its doors.
Sourced Market, which currently has stores in St Pancras and Marylebone, will be the first place to open at Nova, today.
They'll serve up fresh coffee in-store and to take away and you'll find a growler station inside with a regularly changing roster of craft brews (drink-in or take home), bean-to- bar chocolate library, wine on tap and meals served up from breakfast to evening charcuterie boards.
The opening of Sourced comes along with news of two more food spots at Nova with both Vagabond coffee and Crosstown Doughnuts scheduled to open there too.
Sourced Market Victoria is now open at Nova Building, 85 Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1W 0AJ.
