Hotel review: The Garden House at Beaverbrook - Mumfidential
food ambience drinks
So we pack up the car and drive 45 minutes out of town to the Garden House, a new hotel in the grounds of Beaverbrook, a wedding cake of a Victorian mansion in the Surrey Hills.
We are met by two guys in tweed plus fours and caps and shown in to a red brick house that could belong to a friend, if any of our friends owned a large country cottage in a walled garden, decorated with gorgeous fabrics and flowers, deep paint colours and quarry stone floors.
Children will also be well looked after, with playground, a tree house, riding and a Sharky & George kids’ club, which thank God is already open.
The boys caper around here for a while and then we head off into the woods where we discover the enormous tree house and wigwam, which is Sharky & George’s HQ.
Afterwards, with hair smelling of Bamford botanical shampoo, the boys relax on their bed in their robes and watch cartoons, while my husband and I read magazines, drink gin and tonic and photograph every aspect of the rooms for interior inspiration.

The Garden House is the first phase of a project led by business partners Joel Cadbury (of the Cadbury dynasty) and Ollie Vigors to transform the former Cherkley Court estate into a 35-bedroom country hotel.
Food and drink are a key part of any stay at The Garden House, not just because of its restaurant but it also has a cookery school, which doubles up as a chef’s table (thanks to a narrow window overlooking the kitchen) and seats up to 20 people.

The Garden House at Beaverbrook: ticking all the right boxes ...
food ambience
If you're looking for a truly delectable banquet, I’d suggest you stop off for lunch at the recently opened Garden House Restaurant and School of Cookery at Beaverbrook – in the grounds of the former Cherkley Court, near Leatherhead.
The Garden House is tucked away in a walled garden in a secluded spot in the grounds of the estate formerly known as Cherkley Court.
Think ‘Agatha Christie meets Alice in Wonderland’ and you’ve got the idea.
Once a private family residence, The Garden House sits apart from its better-known neighbour, the château-esque building that Lord Beaverbrook famously called home.
Hopefully, the good people of Surrey will go out of their way – either with hound or without – to dine at The Garden House.
The House at Beaverbrook: Is this Britain's coolest new country ...

Expectations are high for Surrey's hottest hotel opening of the summer.
Understandable given that £90m has been pumped into a colossal project to transform what was once the country estate of media mogul Lord Beaverbrook.
But is the slick new 18-bedroom House at Beaverbrook set to become the coolest country house hotel in the county – or potentially even Britain?
Add into the mix a cutting-edge Japanese restaurant, Art Deco cinema and Roaring Twenties bar, and we just might have one of one of the glammest hotel openings of the year on our hands.
