Right next to the new Stratford International train station, it's still more than your average station pub.

It's early days yet, but the modest premises is promising expansion soon with an on-site brewery currently being set up.

Run by Uttobeer in Borough, the real ale on the pumps was mostly from the Otley brewery (Pontypridd), with Brecon's Bright Beacon another option.

There's also a good selection of bottles ales in the fridges, including three from Longmont's Left Hand Brewery (Colorado, USA) which we got to try at the last Great British Beer Festival.

The London guide to Chocolate Week

We are now in the full-swing of a chocolate-fuelled week in London - the UK's biggest celebration of this much loved cocoa product.

The chocolatiers of London are honouring this occasion with tastings, workshops and demonstrations throughout the capital, all leading up to the big event - The Chocolate Show at Olympia National Hall from 16-18 October.

Why British producers are top of the chocs Here's our round-up of the most exciting events on the schedule, from meat and chocolate matching (yes, really) to a bike-themed chocolate brownie bake-off.

Chocolate and Meats pairing at The Ginger Pig We kick off Chocolate Week 2015 with a rather bizarre but tempting collaboration between Rococo and the skilled butchers at The Ginger Pig.

Rococo’s pairings expert will walk you through a selection of cold-cuts and cured meats at the butchery, matched - unusually but sucessfully - with their award-winning chocolates.

Fictional, that is, until someone decided to plonk a stadium, swimming pool and shopping mall in the lower Lea Valley, thus requiring a new postcode.

To their credit, its planners could have just given the green light to another Slug and Lettuce, but instead the people behind the The Rake pub and Utobeer stall in Borough Market have opened a brewpub here with a huge beer selection (there are plenty of chains too, if that’s your thing).

Tap East is not immune to this, but the evident commitment to exciting beer provides incentive to visit retail nirvana.

The advantages – for the owners at least – of opening a bar like Tap East in a shopping centre are clear.

Tap East is nothing like most people’s idea of a local boozer, but it definitely merits a visit from beer lovers – even if you have to walk past every store in Europe’s biggest shopping mall to get there.
