Potbelly | Legendary Chicago Sandwich Shop has now arrived in London : Potbelly

Back in 1977 in downtown Chicago, Potbelly began life as a little antiques shop specialising in rustic potbelly stoves.

The founder started selling hot, toasted sandwiches, homemade cookies and shakes alongside live music, creating a much-loved local neighbourhood sandwich shop.

Word spread and soon Potbelly became a Chicago legend with hundreds of shops across the globe.

Great Sandwiches.

I swung by last night’s launch of Potbelly.

En route to where I was ultimately heading, I reckoned I’d get a good sandwich out of it but had no idea I’d have such a majorly satisfying one.

Not only did I enjoy my best sandwich in recent memory, but (while queuing up for my order) I had what I’m pretty sure was the best milkshake I ever have slurped in London.

I loved grabbing a bag of Snyder’s pretzels with my sandwich.

Potbelly does breakfast, soups, salads, freshly baked cookies, old timey sodas and more, but I reckon the sandwiches (I’m keen to return for a go at Potbelly’s meatball sub) are the main act.

Work lunches consist of your generic tuna and sweetcorn or cheese ploughman sandwiches whilst your fellow coworkers are chowing down on anything their little hearts desire.

A multigrain roll (or white – it’s up to you) piled high with beef salami, turkey breast, black angus beef slices, and turkey ham, followed by swiss cheese, and I opted to add even moreee: hot peppers, lettuce, and pickles, just for a little pizzaz!

The sandwich was warm, toasted, and slightly crunchy with gooey melty cheese, however this was my least favourite of the bunch as it was a little too meaty (shock horror!)

The slightly peppery black angus beef slices were of great quality, and made a mouth-watering fantastic sandwich when paired with the sharp provolone cheese and a squirt of mustard.

A very meaty combination of smoked turkey salami, beef salami, beef & turkey pepperoni, spicy beef salami, and a few slices of provolone cheese – phew, that’s a lot of meat!

Coming to Westfield Stratford, hard on the heels of another American import Shake Shack, is Pot Belly.

The chain was founded in Chicago back in 1977 and named after the potbelly stove store they were first served up in.

Their meatball sarnie is also popular with marinara sauce and provolone cheese.

Over the first three days, they'll be giving away 300 sandwiches.

To find out how to get yours for free you'll have to head over to www.potbellyuk.com Potbelly opens mid July 2015 on The Street at Westfield Stratford.
