Victory Mansion Review - Foodepedia

Among all these upstarts, Victory Mansion has become something of a fixture of on Stoke Newington High Street.

The short-but -sweet menu has been totally re-written and is now jam-packed with what Victory Mansion calls Ta-kos – small hand-made tacos packed with Asian-inspired fillings.

We kick things off with a couple of beauties – a Winston Smith and a Holden Caulfield drawn from an extensive cocktail list inspired by famous works of literature.

Instead, thick slices of potato are coated in a crisp nori batter before being deep-fried and served with chicken salt and kampot pepper mayo these are deliciously moreish and  worth the trip to Stoke Newington alone!

Victory Mansion is a little bit different to anything else out there, they’ve taken some risks with the menu however the food is excellent, the cocktail menu is delicious and the staff are fantastic: friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing.

REVIEW: VICTORY MANSION - London On The Inside

New p}(‘0.6(” places in Hackney are ten-a-penny these days and we have to admit we’re generally a bit sceptical, especially of the ones opening on Stoke Newington High Street.

Oh no, this place does decent cocktails – HELLO Divorced in Mexico, that’s a negroni-type concoction made with tequila – and good food too.

We were big fans of the fried potatoes with gravy dip, a perfectly acceptable bar snack with cocktails we say, the lamb chops with anchovy and smoked treacle, and the mussels with celeriac.

Victory Mansion pays homage to the most significant literature, food and drink that has inspired London over the last Century.

The relaxed, shack-like cocktail bar is celebrating two years in N16 with a new Asian-cum-Mexican menu of tacos and other small plates Victory Mansion, just opposite the police station on Stoke Newington High Street, is coming up on two years serving small plates and big cocktails.

Despite the aesthetic of the place – part-cosy shack, part-Golden Age Americana (adding up to the kind of place you can imagine Ernest Hemingway slumped in on his visits to Key West) – their team of owners and master mixologists have opted for some Asian/Mexican food fusion, bringing in TA-KO’s tacos for their current menu.

The TA-KO menu is more accommodating than vegetarians and vegans than it appears on first glance with each of the tacos – all of the options can be tweaked to either with a little help from the excellent server.

The former ekes delectable Chinese flavours out of sweet potato, haloumi and fermented leek, the latter again makes delicate work with that nori batter.

Both nail the essence of this fine menu – Asian and Mexican food, if not destined to be long-time companions, can certainly be made to mingle, with the help of some flavoured sriracha here, some a cocktail or two.

RESTAURANT REVIEW | Victory Mansion, Stoke Newington, London

Victory Mansion is both a restaurant and a bar and is doing things a bit different, delicious and decadent, than most, if not all, of the places on this side of town.

Victory Mansion, first off, has an absolutely amazing cocktail menu that’s practically scientific in its design.

Victory Mansion’s cocktail menu is like a book, and I recommend you read it from cover and cover and sample as many as you can.

But it’s not just the drinks where Victory Mansion is king, it’s their new Ta-Ko menu, introduced a month ago, that’s also a standout.

Other tacos that we didn’t get to try, but no doubt probably just as delicious as the ones we had include tacos with Blackened river trout, torched seabream, red pepper pork neck as well as one with fermented yellow bean leas, halloumi, sweet potato and mustard relish – it’s one I would definitely go back for.

food

A well-dressed spot on Stoke Newington High Street.

The food menu has been put together by Sam Wilkinson, who has worked at Ottolenghi and Bentley's.

The food menu comprises small plates such as stuffed mussels with spinach, coconut and turmeric, pigeon salad with dried figs, cobnuts and a sherry dressing, butterflied sardines with fennel, olive, orange and almond and rump of lamb with green tomato, apricot, chipotle and sour cream.

'Street food Sundays' feature too, with guest chefs and street food outfits strutting their culinary stuff.
