food

Casa Madeira is a little enclave of Portuguese culture, with a vibrant café, bar and grill, well-stocked deli and family restaurant all sitting under the railway arches of Vauxhall.

Dishes were a bit hit and miss: potatoes were undercooked, and the pork was a little tough in the Alentejo pork and clam stew – but a plate of grilled sardines was good honest seafood at its best.

We had some food envy when we saw flaming chorizo and an impressive steaming skewer of Madeira-style beef going to the next table.

The different elements of the operation are all interconnected, so diners migrate to the café next door for a bica (espresso) and dessert.

Traditional crème caramel was dense and enormous, and a pastel de nata had a good crisp base and rich set custard.

A Wonderful eating experience in a Portuguese Cafe with exciting delicious food on offer.

Not only have I been having amazing breakfasts at this cafe,i learned that the restaurant was open in the evening for Portuguese Cuisine so I went to dinner with my friend and the food was mouth watering and exciting we had Clams in a spicy tomato sauce with Chorizo and coriander as a starter and Chicken in a sauce with ham and Leeks and Saute potatoes and other delicious spices and a desert of Almond Creme Caramel which was also tasty and Green wine as an aperitif to accompany the meal plus excellent service from the waitress and a very welcoming atmosphere.

Thank you Roberto for a wonderful meal it made my evening go with a swing.
