REVIEW: TOM'S KITCHEN - London On The Inside

Review analysis
food

Tom’s p}(‘0.6(” Kitchen in St Katherine Docks is the most recent restaurant to open in Chef Tom Aikens little group.

Like all his restaurants the emphasis is on locally sourced, seasonal produces and having the title of the youngest British chef ever to be awarded two Michelin stars, you are pretty much guaranteed to be on to something spesh.

For mains, the 300g Sirloin steak on the bone was loaded with juicy flavours whist triple cooked truffle and parmesan chips were crack like addictive.

Even though the steak was a damn fine choice, it was the chicken Schnitzel with confit cherry tomatoes and red pepper dressing that stole the show, crunchy breadcrumbs encasing tender chicken with a fresh sweet sauce to liven up the dish.

Tom’s Kitchen is British favourites and comfort food classics at their best.

ES Food Newsletter In principle, I am against the concept of St Katharine Docks next to Tower Bridge.

And now, adding to the tourist feeding holes catering chiefly to passing trade is a new and rather enormous Tom’s Kitchen — casual ‘comfort food’ dining from the stable of the very talented, accomplished chef Tom Aikens.

By this point I was chuntering loudly about how a fish pie should really be, which is a death-row dinner vision of creamy mash, perhaps a cheesy, breadcrumby top, with a wholly adorable puddle of fishy, mussel- and prawn-strewn, silky, lemony, mustardy, nutmeg-sprinkled stew that one cannot resist a second portion of.

The lamb rump was a perfectly acceptable, nicely balanced portion, but for £21 one could have had the excellent Cordon Bleu schnitzel and a pickled cucumber salad at my go-to emergency venue The Delaunay.
