My trip to the Ivy Cafe in Marylebone last year was hugely enjoyable so I was thrilled when they invited me to try out their newest restaurant, The Ivy Cafe in St John’s Wood.
The drinks were delicious, nice and crisp and a really lovely way to start the meal.
Similar in style to the other Ivy restaurants I’ve been to (with leather banquettes, low lighting and a brasserie type feel) it was still eclectic enough to have a personality of its own.
Firm on the outside, giving way to a creamy gooey middle it was absolutely delicious and the fresh citrus salad did a great job of making sure it wasn’t to heavy and rich.
On the other hand Dan went for something much heavier off of the ‘Ivy Classics’ menu.

But our feeling was that The Ivy - strong and proud and refurbished in Covent Garden - should be famous for being the ultimate flagship - the sole force behind a brand never really meant to expand.
But now that brand Ivy has grown considerably (Ivy Cafes and Market Grills are now in Kensington, Soho, Covent Garden and even Bristol), we've been forced to take notice - and while we still think that The Ivy need to watch their backs and avoid becoming the new high street restaurant giant of affordable luxury (is nothing sacred?)
- we also have to say that new Ivy Cafe St John's Wood is really rather good.
Rather than one large brasserie-style dining space, synonymous with The Ivy, Ivy Cafe St John's Wood has split into three discernible chasms of dining.
Food and drink: There's a reason everybody looks so happy at The Ivy - considering the luxury feel, the food is blisteringly cheap, so much so that ordering a main over £17 takes considerable work (unless you're getting the steak and in that case it's a few more pounds).

The Ivy Cafe St John's Wood: An increasingly chain-like crowd ...
Celeb-filled and iconic, The Ivy has been a key fixture on the London restaurant scene since 1917.
The menu isn’t shy when it comes to quantity, with everything from duck curry to lamb shoulder via fish and chips present and correct.
The Ivy’s famous shepherd’s pie is present and correct - and a wise choice - while a brioche-crumbed chicken Milanese, topped with a fried egg and black truffle, sums up the overall experience rather well: a fine-tuned crowd-pleaser, with a just a few shavings of something to make us all feel a little special.
The restaurants serve breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and everything in between, with a competent cocktail list playing second fiddle to a wide range of accessibly priced wine.
