Lord's Tavern Lord's Cricket Club - WFC Contractors

Prepare to be bowled over as the refurbished Lord’s Tavern knocks them for six ……….

WFC were contracted by Marylebone Cricket Club to refurbish the existing Bar & Restaurant based in the grounds of Lord’s Cricket Club to create a more ambient atmosphere.

Shrill well-dressed ladies in dark navy and white trim blazers monopolise the crowd, many of whom have long-left behind the pretence of being a "lady" (in the old-fashioned sense of the word), despite today apparently being "Ladies Day".

Before he gets a chance to showcase his talents, a downpour of biblical magnitude falls from the sky without warning and brightly-coloured umbrellas propelled by tipsy "ladies" scuttle into the cricket ground tavern where they're completely shielded from the pelting rain.

We have just enough time to watch a middle-aged woman put her head inside an over-sized lamp shade and drunkenly giggle "I'm a lamp" before our vegetarian salad and chicken liver parfait arrive.

Our ever-thoughtful waitress returns with a miraculously dry umbrella and whisks our empty plates away before magically reappearing with the mains: five goat's cheese tortellini parcels - with sage butter, roasted pumpkin and spinach - resemble vegetarian rations; but equally tasty hand-cut chips and seasonal side veg thankfully fill the void.

Snakes securely penned for the night, it's now safe to venture out but the weather mourns England's loss and we're once again shuffling beneath a small umbrella towards the relative shelter of St John's Wood.
