Review: On the Dak – London, UK - Whistlestops
food
The latest Korean hotspot from the fabulous Linda Lee – brains behind the hugely popular On the Bab (one of our favourite spots for soft-pillowy bao in London) – On the Dak is all about fried chicken (dak means chicken in Korean).
This is proper Korean street food with heart – noticeable by the cheeriness of its staff and the glorious smell as you peer over the counter to the open kitchen.
There are four types of fried chicken – the soft garlic version was our fave – served with crispy cabbage salad, chicken in a bao bun, chicken noodle soup, and chicken bibimbab-style rice, and not forgetting the chicken dumplings on the side.
, plus there are sides of kimchi, from original to coriander, to tomato.
We think the chicken is better than On the Bab (it’s a different recipe apparently) and not greasy in the slightest.

Based in Covent Garden, this Asian-inspired restaurant is the ultimate destination for Korean chicken.
Offering all manner of chicken-based dishes, from noodles to soups and much more, the aim behind On The Dak was to unite all Lee's favourite chicken dishes under one roof.
The menu offers an eclectic range of poultry plates, such as the Chitang, a flavoursome chicken noodle soup, and the Chibun, a dish of spicy Korean barbecued or fried chicken with cabbage.
There will also be a Chibab, comprised of chicken, rice and salad, which also comes in vegetarian variety substituted with mushrooms and house soy.
Coming in four different flavours, including sweet soy, the fired chicken is available in small, medium and large portions, with two levels of spice.

Chicken is served in a signature range of sauces, with lots of sides and condiments.
It’s classic Korean fried chicken with its sweet and sticky sauce, plus chicken soup noodles, chicken with rice or salad, and chicken dumplings.
There’s a choice of sauces with that fried chicken, including sweet soy (their signature sauce), then spicy Seoul style and ‘soft garlic.’
Korean fried chicken comes in small (£5.50), medium (£11) or large portions (£17).
We always like to give you a heads up when these new chains kick off as we think they make great lunch options, and Korean fried chicken is always a winner.
