ambience food drinks
Tucked away in a little corner in Bloomsbury, Konaki is a quaint, family-run Greek restaurant with a homely, warm atmosphere and delicious food.
These were incredibly juicy and plump, with a nice whiff of that charcoal flavour you get on grilled food.
Drizzled with lemon juice and a sprinkling of herbs and you have the perfect seafood appetiser for a Greek feast!
Lastly, we ordered a separate main of the à la carte menu- lavraki – sea bass grilled over charcoal with herbs, olive oil and lemon juice.
The fish was nice and flaky and had a lot of meat for us to pluck at, and the aroma of the fish juices mixed with the olive oil and lemon was sumptuous Dessert was chocolate ice cream (not pictured)- a bit basic I know, but I didn’t want to pay extra for pastries or cake (the set menu doesn’t specify you had to pay extra, which I thought was a little sketchy).

fri 6 feb 09took my partner ( who lives in liverpool ) to konaki on friday night.had been telling him all about the restaurant and looking forward to it all week after a recomendation from an old work colleauge.as we entered we were sat right at the back in a very narrow part of the restuarant and almost had the same elbow room as being on a plane.ordered the meze, very mediocre, a variety of dips and pitta bread, a 'greek' salad with very un authentic'feta' cheese ( tasted very wet and like cheap substitute ).
followed by a strange oily salad with a few strands of tasteless 'crab stick'the piece of greek sausage was tasty as was a piece of kekbab style meat, then the fresh calamri was the only part of the meal we really enjoyed.we had began to lose interest in the meal before being given the last course of grilled meat.
the chicken tasted dry and rubbery as though it had been cooked and put in a microwave and the rest of the meat was dry and bland.we both left the chicken in fear of making us ill.we had 2 bottles of wine at £15 and the meze was listed at £18 each, my calculation would be £66 ( plus a normal 12.5 % service charge ) would end at around £75, however the bill was £82 with no mention of service charge, only £7 or so on top of what we should have paid, but felt 'ripped off' from a very un-inspiring meal.i certainly would not go back and felt embarrassed and awkward for taking my partner there after giving konaki such a glowing build up.a damp squib food wise, but the enjoyable santorini wine made up for the dissapointing cuisine.

All good.
Oh, and the Kritikos wine was pretty good, though a little watery finish, it was light and just right for our mood.
