[Take Away/Small Restaurant Review] Kimchee To Go — UnitedKpop

Anyone who has eaten at Kimchee in High Holborn may recognise some of the foods on offer at the two take away/fast food branches of said restaurant.

Sounds good to me I thought so I decided to have a try and went to Kimchee To Go‘s New Oxford Street branch for a light lunch snack.

You can get small desserts, side dishes like the mighty Kimchi, cold drinks such as Citron Tea and Coke.

I decided to try the Chan Vegetable Dosirak and bought plum tea as my drink to go with the little meal.

Overall: I definitely recommend people to pay a visit to Kimchee To Go if you want a light meal in the form of quick, healthy Korean food at affordable prices.

Kimchee to Go (Strand) - Korean fast food on the rise ~ London ...

Address: 388 Strand, London, WC2R 0LT Phone: 020 7240 4515 Nearest Tube station: Covent Garden, Temple, Charing Cross, Embankment Ratings (out of 5 *) Price: below £10pp Service charge: Extra charge for sitting in Taste: *** Service: N/A Ambience: ***I was running late for The Duck House play at Vaudeville Theatre along Strand and had to grab a quick bite.

To give it some credit, Kimchee to Go does put in some effort in its decor: a Korean drum, vase and plate lie beside its payment counter, not to mention classy looking wooden finishings.

Other than noodle soup and udon, Kimchee to Go serves other hot food like doshirap (the equivalent of the Japanese bento sets and dupbap (a neat all in one meal) as well.

Cold dishes to go include bibimbap (rice mixed with seven different seasoned vegetables and either beef, chicken or tofu) and kimbap (or the Korean sushi).

Kimchee (Holborn, London) – Restaurant Review | Korean Class ...

food   busyness   staff   menu

The friend I was with (who is Korean) said it reminded her of restaurants and home and that the layout, décor etc seemed very traditional to restaurants in Korea.

We ended up choosing Jajang Myeon (thick noodles with pork and vegetables topped with black bean sauce) and Tang Su Yuk (battered pork with sweet and sour dip).

For the Jajang Myeon, the ingredients and vegetables all tasted very fresh, and the balance between black bean sauce and noodles was perfect.

It feels more commercial, and maybe people who’d never eaten at a Korean restaurant before may feel more comfortable eating here first rather than one of the smaller Korean restaurants – maybe they would find the menu easier to get their head around and the appearance could make it more accessible to people who could feel a little intimidated when looking through the window of one of the smaller restaurants.

For me, I love the experience of eating in one of the cosy, small Korean restaurants, but this was a fun change and there was a fun, vibrant feeling to the whole thing.

KIMCHEE to go! – Restaurant Review | Korean Class MASSIVE

food   ambience   value

After opening their flagship restaurant at Holborn in 2011, KIMCHEE realised there was a demand for Korean food on the go.

(Badumtsk) KIMCHEE To Go – New Oxford Street 106 New Oxford St, London, WC1A 1HB KIMCHEE has kept it classy bringing the infamously elegant décor of their Holborn restaurant into their To Go chains.

For 2 people at KIMCHEE it came up to over £20 for a meal, a drink each and a shared kimbap as a side, which we felt was a bit on the expensive side for fast food.

Overall the meals at KIMCHEE were delicious and it was possibly one of our more posh fast food experiences.

KIMCHEE definitely  has a very cool concept and has made Korean food easier and more accessible to everyone.

Kimchee finally opens second London restaurant

food   location

Kimchee Pancras Square opens six days a week and serves a traditional Korean menu cooked in an open kitchen over a charcoal grill.

Dishes include Kimchee fried rice with bacon, egg and chorizo; and jjam bbong – a spicy seafood noodle soup with vegetables.

“The Pancras Square site provides an ideal location for our second Kimchee restaurant; a vibrant, busy area of new urban re-development in King’s Cross,” says Frederic Lluch, operations director of Kimchee.

“We hope that the Kimchee concept enhances the square’s offering and provides locals with a unique and exciting dining experience.”

The group also operates two Kimchee To Go takeaway sites in central London.

Bulgogi Beef and sweet tofu are very tasty, highly recommended.

Japchae is cold noodle served with different toppings.

The tofu topping was good but the noodle was clotted and a bit oily.

Also the mastermind behind cheap-and-cheerful sushi chain, Wasabi, we wouldn’t be surprised if branches of Kimchee to Go started popping up all over London soon enough.

Pre-packed Korean kimbap (sushi) rolls, bento-style (dosirak) lunch boxes, and even mix-your-own bibimbaps (spicy combos of rice, vegetables and meat) are all displayed for the taking.

Korean breakfast items include juk (soft rice porridge) or misugaru (traditional Korean roasted grain drink).

A generously-proportioned vegetarian dosirak contained thick sliced of sweet soy-glazed tofu, dumplings and adzuki bean rice.

The bibimbap was a dish of two halfs – cold toppings are taken from the fridge, before hot rice is added to the bottom compartment of your box at the counter.
