The Ring Pub London - 72 Blackfiars Road, London SE1 8HA
Famously situated opposite the site of the historic home of British boxing and sharing its name, this compact pub certainly punches above its weight.
Pictures of the men who boxed at The Ring and went on to become World, European and British Champions adorn the walls.
There’s plenty of seating outside the pub, which is directly opposite Southwark tube station and acts as a great focal point, landmark and meeting place right on the corner of Blackfriars Road and The Cut.

The business card forcould double for the front cover; blood red stilettos, a meat cleaver (knives are a bit sissy round this way) and a beef fore rib swinging from a hook.
Can I come in?A steak restaurant reconstructed to appeal to the female diner, stripped bare of any macho posturing and swaggering lager breath braggadocio, a testosterone transplant, removing all that blokey guff that accompanies fat bellied bankers chowing on steak while slapping the server’s arse, and later sucking on a Cohiba with a slug of cognac: this could be an admirable manifesto, right?
The talons of ridicule were bared early on by an incredulous Twitter mob, the video on their site derided as a party political STK broadcast that viewed like an S&M porn flick without the money shot.have brought their concept to London within thehotel, after five openings in the USA taking in New York, LA, Miami, Las Vegas and Atlanta, and now throw their ‘fascinator’ into the ring amongst the white heat of new London steak restaurants;t…steak ennui may soon follow. The interior lays its brash cards out from the kick off.
Creamy white leather banquettes scuff up easily and are unforgiving, displaying the grime, a brave choice in a venue where red wine will be splashed about.is playing in the background on a first visit and my dining companion must be really chuffed that I’ve noted her gender and invited her here.
Better than expected and worth exploring. There are some raw bar items on the menu in this self avowed “female friendly” restaurant, some oysters, sashimi, and crab salad for the disciplined, steaks listed as Small, Medium or Large, so you can easily judge quantity if your size 8 is under threat.

The Strand Dining Rooms, restaurant review: Does the venue live ...
location food staff
The Wolseley famously has a central area where the beautiful people are seated; the outer reaches of the room are known as Siberia.
The all-day menu borrows its layout from the Wolseley, listing breakfast and afternoon tea alongside its main-event offerings, plus daily special dishes.
Despite the menu's efforts to hunker down with honest British produce – heritage beetroot with Fletcher's Berkswell, sirloin of Dedham Vale beef with chips – some of the dishes sound a bit wrong.
New restaurants all strive to create a signature dish.
Only when the pastry chef springs into action do things pick up –we particularly like an egg custard holding chunks of poached rhubarb which arrives aflame.

It’s a bit of a blessing that the duck leg bao is not over-furnished with flesh when the flesh in question is so dry Southam Street is not in that part of W10 made famous by Richard Curtis films, all candy-coloured mews and quirky antique shops.
It’s a bit of a blessing that it’s not over-furnished with flesh when the flesh in question is so dry but, given this, and the natural blandness of the shredded cucumber and raw mushroom that pad out the bun, it’s a dish crying out for sauce.
It’s so like panna cotta, they might be cross-continental twins, but with characteristically lovely Japanese decoration, all strawberry sauce and flowers, and a cashew and sesame brittle that’s so far up my street, I forget all about the elusive sake element.
Southam Street itself, however, feels a bit like a fish out of water: a glamorous fish, certainly, in a less than glamorous locale, a fun fish with all the gear and big ideas, yet one for whom food seems to be a bit of an afterthought.

Nuala, London: 'Some beautiful moments' – restaurant review | Life ...

The wine list belongs to a recruit from Noma Mexico called Honey Spencer who sounds like a character from a Wes Anderson movie.
From a list of snacks comes a cracker laden with, on one side, a frothy mousse of bright green chervil and, on the other, smokey cod’s roe.
It’s a serious start, reinforced by Honey Spencer’s brilliant wine list.
Other restaurants should come and study the Nuala wine list to see how it’s done.
It’s overlaid with gossamer slices of lardo, the cured back fat of the pig, which has been allowed to go translucent courtesy, I presume, of a short trip under the pass lights.
The Ring | Bars and pubs in Southwark, London
A traditional Southwark pub that takes patriotic pride in its position across the road from the home of Great British boxing - the Blackfriars Ring boxing arena that was sadly destroyed back in the Blitz.
Expect a boxing theme to the aesthetic, with pugilism memorabilia alongside the burgers, Big Apple hot dogs and booze.
It's worth noting that it's not just about the boxing here - all the big sporting events are usually shown.
