REVIEW: Gaucho, Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia - The Foodaholic

They got a little carried away with the squid ink and the scallops struggled to cut through it all with its fresh flavour of the sea.

Full of flavour, and a nice hit of smokiness from the grill was made even better once dipped in to that home made bearnaise sauce.

Its rich flavour just seemed more locked in, smokiness more absorbed into the meat and the chimichurri sauce makes for one hell of a difference.

A glass of sweet wine unexpectedly appeared with it, and by this point all the cowhide and metal poles around the room seemed like a good idea.

It was very rich, full of flavour and the poached kumquats were a lovely pairing.

Charlotte's Bistro | Award-winning neighbourhood bar & dining room

Charlotte’s Bistro is an independently owned informal neighbourhood bar & restaurant.

More daughter than sister to the longstanding Charlotte’s Place restaurant on Ealing Common, we first opened in 2010 on a mission to offer inventive drinks as well as the award winning food we were already famous for.

From bread, stocks and ice creams in the kitchen, to purées, cordials and infusions on the bar, naturally we make them all.

Activities London has plenty of family-friendly attractions – take your pick from the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, British Museum, Hyde Park, ballet or children’s plays at the theatre, the Tower of London… Meals There’s no dedicated children’s menu, but if you don’t fancy room service, kids are welcome in the restaurant at any time and there’s plenty to choose from; the kitchen is happy to warm up milk or baby food and high chairs are available.

Also Families with older, independent kids will enjoy the film club: every Sunday night at 8pm, the movie of the week (a new release or classic – check the rating) is played in the Charlotte Street Hotel’s state-of-the-art screening room; dinner (or afternoon tea) is served beforehand in Oscar restaurant.

Grace Dent reviews The Ninth: Some of the best food I've eaten this ...

Into this mix arrived The Ninth, a French Mediterranean-style 43-seater restaurant serving what they call robust French classics.

‘The Ninth’ suggests everything and at the same time nothing at all and appeared in Charlotte Street last December with understated fanfare.

There is a dish of pan-fried herb gnocchi with ceps and shallots on The Ninth’s ‘vegetables’ section of the menu that will change your life.

The Ninth recommends that all of its dishes are to share, so I placed the gnocchi at my side of the table and made a subliminal fortress of wine-glasses.

The Ninth, I’ve decided, is a good restaurant to keep in mind for a variety of reasons.
