Restaurant review: Wagamama by Stephen Vowles – Boyz

There are a lot of great eating places on Dean Street in London’s Soho and with the arrival of a branch of Wagamama now also on the street – at 81 to be precise – the chain makes a very welcome addition to the street.

Opting for the short rib and grilled duck donburi ramens from the Omakase selection for our mains, these chef’s special dishes fresh from the kitchen came as very generous portions and would satisfy most appetites.

Partnering those dishes, sides we chose included steamed buns (pork belly and panko apple along with mixed mushroom and panko aubergine), chilli squid and chicken gyoza.

Fresh juices are also available, with the Clean Green (kiwi, avocado and apple) refreshing and palate cleansing.

Wagamama Dean Street is open Monday to Saturday from 11am until 11pm, and Sunday from 11am until 10pm.

Wagamama is a chain of award-winning pan-Asian inspired noodle restaurants.

- iphone owners with a taste for the pan-Asian flavours of wagamama can order their favourite food on the move, thanks to the launch of the restaurant chains new iphone application.

The company is the first restaurant chain in the UK to launch its own iphone app, which is free to download from apples iphone app store.

Wagamama is known for embracing new technology, and the innovative app mirrors the super-fast ordering system wagamama customers are used to when dining in their restaurants.

Hungry iphone owners can use the app to locate their nearest branch of wagamama and browse the menu to place their order.

Review: Wagamama – Vegan Eats Oxford

Review analysis

Having looked briefly beforehand online, I did come to the conclusion that this menu is more of a clever re-brand from the chain restaurant than delivering much in the way of new food to try.

This style of curry can be found at almost every chain restaurant now I feel, with little to distinguish one from another.

Katie had ordered the new tofu dish which looked great and I did find myself with a little food envy.

Wagamama used to be one of my go-to places and depending on who I was going out for dinner with I’d still be happy to go there, but having explored so many other vegan options in Oxford I would say it’s moving further down the list of restaurants I like to eat at.

The food is perfectly fine, but still chain restaurant quality, and it is a little pricier for that kind of food than a lot of the other available options, without a student discount or any money-off vouchers ever available to download.
