I remember the early days when Byron was the new kid on the block, did sliders and was firmly a West London thing.

I’m not going to pontificate about burgers – I know very little about them to be quite honest (I remain un-shacked) – but I do visit a Byron at least once every month (actually, I now use it as an incentive to go running) and I just love them to bits.

My local is Gloucester Road, but I like the new Old Brompton branch, a little further away from me, which opened last month.

Let’s see now, I have been to the High Street Ken one, Westfield, Gloucester Road, Old Brompton Road, Intrepid Fox, Covent Garden….

I also have swish new software in Lightroom 3, which has a much better imaging engine, that allows me to recycle my old images and make them look brand new.

We’ve measured the time it takes to get seated and to get a burger, the cost per chip, the cost per gram of a cheeseburger, the decibel level, the number of people there and even the number of sauces available, as well as the number of pickles (love them or hate them), We think knowing how many chips you’ll get, how loud a place is, and the actual weight of a burger is more important than what the reviewer makes of the ambience There’s nothing more infuriating than getting to a venue really hungry and being made to queue.

While you can pay up to £250,000 for a burger in London, chances are your rule of thumb is that if a burger and chips is below £10, it’s cheap, above £10, it’s expensive.

Here’s how you know if you’re getting value: Honest Burger was always going to struggle here with making the burger inseparable from the chips though it only adds 1p per gram.

But it’s a lottery the first time you visit a new burger venue.

If you’re looking for a weightier affair, Meat Liquor has both the heaviest burger and highest number of chips but it is the most expensive and you are dealing with the most pickles (love them or hate them).

Of all the many burger chains in London, Byron is the least gimmicky and could well be the best.

The menu is simple: a classic burger, a cheese burger (with four types of cheese to choose from), a Byron burger (dry cure bacon, mature cheddar and Byron BBQ sauce), a bun-free skinny option with salad, a chicken burger and a veggie option (grilled Portobello mushroom, roast red pepper, spinach and goat's cheese).

We agree: the burgers here are mighty fine especially the Byron with extra avocado.

Not ones to forget about the bigger picture, Byron also offer an impressive selection of craft beers as the perfect accompaniment to the burgers.

The beer list changes every six months and offers local favourites, worldwide options and their very own Byron Pale Ale.
