This hospitable new venture from Neo Ioannou is a sure fire way to keep the kids happy, says Alex Bellotti.
It’s a reasonable expectation of modern dining that food should be served fresh, but at Fiddie’s Italian Kitchen it’s an endearing necessity.
Squeezed into a cosy alcove on Finchley Road, freezer space is sacrificed for a gargantuan pizza oven; as a result, no ingredient takes long to find its way into a frying pan after being delivered.
Boasting pizza and pasta chefs trained in Milan and Sicily, the only surprise here is that owner Neo Ioannou is of Greek origin.
The bowls of pasta are deep and glowing, while my Pesca pizza (smoked salmon, prawns, grilled courgettes and cherry tomatoes) was on the generous side of 12 inches.

Lunch at Fiddie’s is all about good homemade Italian dishes at pocket-friendly prices.
It may have a very English owner, but behind the scenes of this bright addition to the high street are competent Italian chefs cooking up everything from scratch, and the smell of garlic is well and truly in the air.
With lunch deals of any pasta or pizza from the menu with a drink for £6.90, or with wine for £7.90, between 12pm - 3pm every day, Fiddie’s is quickly becoming popular.
Every plate smells of something divine, including a very decent calzone stuffed with mozzarella, tomato, ham and mushrooms, usually £9.50 outside of lunch.

The food was very freshly made and therefore if the restaurant is busy one might have to wait a little while until it arrives.
However, the portions are a good size, the food is hot when it arrives and as the Pasta is home made it is very good.

An Italian restaurant on Finchley Road specialising in 12-inch stone-baked pizzas.
The menu is made up of traditional Italian dishes made with locally sourced ingredients – pasta comes in six varieties with toppings such as pine nuts, parmesan and basil pesto and smoked pancetta, onions, tomatoes, chilli and herbs.
Risotto, salads, seafood and meat dishes are also available.
