Remarkable Pubs: The Swimmer at the Grafton Arms

food   drinks

A big portion of fish and chips fried up in fluffy batter.

In the words of The Sound of Music (we love a good musical); these are a few of our favourite things.

We’ve been told that our drinks selection is superior.

We offer a variety of local and world beers on tap and bottled.

If you love a gin as much as we do then you’re in for a right treat because we stock an extensive selection from the finest local and national distillers, our current favourite is Rock n Rose Scottish gin with fresh rosemary and lemon over ice.

Grafton Arms in Fitzrovia, London Pub Review and Details

The take-over of this pub by Greene King a few years back raised this one's standards; particularly important in Fitzrovia as you're spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs.

There's an upstairs bar which doubles as a private function room (making it frequently closed) and, topping it all off is a handy roof garden.

The upstairs room is a good size and its central location means its ideal for those birthday and works dos, hence it's pretty popular.

Now relegated to smoking room status, the roof terrace is still a welcome relief in summer.

The pub does get busy at lunch and commuter times, but it's ideal for a quiet drink in the afternoon should you be in the area.

food

A large front terrace enveloped by branded umbrellas gives way to a classic, high-ceilinged pub, with one end dedicated to an open kitchen manned by a commendably grizzled southern Italian.

Comfortably sparse, the interior features a fireplace surrounded by gilt-framed mirrors and swimming memorabilia: photographs of Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Crabbe and the White City pool of 1908 (the first time the Olympic sport wasn’t held in open waters).
