The Laughing Heart restaurant, London – review - Decanter
staff drinks food location
There’s so much of a personality cult around chefs at the moment that the front of house doesn’t get much of a look in but despite the open kitchen at the Laughing Heart it’s the 6ft 2in presence of its genial owner Charlie Mellor that dominates the room.
Mellor, who been a sommelier for 13 years, set up the bar and ‘dining room’ to indulge his passion for wine.
There’s a short but interesting wine by the glass selection: on a midweek ‘school’ night we were admirably restrained restricting ourselves to an earthy Tenerife white (Envinate Taganan 2016) and a joyously fruity Claus Preisinger red Puzta Libre 2016 from the Burgenland about which Mellor was effortlessly able to reel off every detail.
The star of the show is the Thai-style larb-stuffed olives – so good they’re worth ordering on their own.
Having now eaten there twice I reckon TLH is best treated as a wine bar to enjoy a good bottle with bar snacks rather than a full meal – you could combine it with nearby Sager & Wilde for an on-trend wine crawl.

You can make restaurant bookings for parties of 1-5 using the widget below: Once described as 'absurdly pretty', the thatched pub with its low beams and wonky walls (which mean the pictures won't hang straight!)
has centuries of hospitality steeped into its very timbers.
Chef/Director, Andrew Pern, regards himself as just a chapter in The Star's long history, despite being the owner of the pub since 1996, when it was acquired in a near derelict state.
Since that time it has not only been restored, whilst maintaining and enhancing its abundant character, but it has picked up a long list of prestigious awards and expanded to incorporate a hotel just across the road Cross House Lodge, The Star's nine-bedroomed hotel was converted from some former farm buildings and joined the family in 2002 after extensive renovation work to create shooting lodge-style accommodation with the option of private dining in the Wheelhouse (also licensed for weddings).
The Star regained its Michelin star status in 2015 and has retained it consistently up to 2018.

'O Ver, London SE1: 'The star turn? The pizzas' – restaurant review ...
food drinks
“’O Ver is the first restaurant in the UK to use the unique ingredient of pure seawater.”
Up against the vast windows loll sacks of Caputo, the classic Neapolitan ‘00’ pizza flour and huge plastic bottles of seawater.
With the odd stagger to Tuscany for salumi and Puglia for burrata, it’s properly Neapolitan: pizza margherita to rum baba, you could be on the Spaccanapoli.
“United Colour of Naples” delivers a selection of street-food classics, a little like the city’s cuoppo – freshly fried items (arancini, frittatine di pasta, crocchè) that are traditionally snacked from a paper cone.
But I’m dredging it out of the forbidden box for ’O Ver (the name is Neapolitan dialect meaning “it’s true”).
