Review of The Diner in Soho, London - Beers and Burgers

The Diner offers a selection of burgers, hot dogs, ribs and wings, as well as a large breakfast menu (which, despite my comments later on I wouldn’t mind going back to try).

However, on a beers and burgers mission, I wanted to try what I thought sounded like the tastiest option on the menu – the Arch Burger.

Described as a 6oz hamburger topped with St. Louis pulled pork, Monterey Jack cheese, coleslaw and dill pickle on a sesame seed bun, the description was enough to reignite my appetite after enjoying an excellent brunch at the Me Hotel Radio Rooftop bar to celebrate Hannah’s birthday earlier that day.

I’m a firm believer that the beef patty should be the dominant flavour in a burger, no matter how many toppings it has.

Overall The Diner offered good beer, and the waffle fries were a unique, tasty accompaniment, but it was let down by the burger on the day.

The Electric Diner provides the perfect setting to enjoy a bite to eat and a refreshing drink or two!

Adjacent to one of the oldest cinemas in London and downstairs from the Electric House, The Diner opens at 8am for breakfast, switches to our All-day menu at 12pm and continues until 11pm (10pm on Sundays).

Our late night menu is served until 1am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Our bar is open until midnight during the week, 1am on Thursdays and until 2am on Friday and Saturday – stocked with 20 different draught and bottled beers, wines and strong new takes on classic cocktails.

There’s booth and bar seating, and a specially chosen soundtrack played from the Diner’s reel-to-reel machine.

A notable name on the London, American dining scene, The Diner in Soho is a cool and quirky location to catch a State-side inspired bite to eat.

Harking back to the glory days of 1950s retro diners, The Diner goes all out with theme, decking the restaurant out in plush booths, and a retro red throughout.

When it comes to their menu, the roster once again echoes that of an all American diner as guests can gorge on chilli dogs, hard milkshakes (of the boozy variety) and a myriad of piled high patties.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day?!

We take it very seriously with our amazing breakfast menu, from dishes with poached eggs to steaks and waffles & pancakes.

We will serve breakfast every Saturday & Sunday from 10am - 3pm.

During the Easter weekend from the 31st of March - 2nd of April you can be the first to enjoy our amazing breakfast dishes.

food

Opened just over a month ago by the people behind the other Diners in Shoreditch and Soho, this Camden branch offers a menu as varied, cheery and slightly greasy as the characters who congregate in the area.

Bottomless cups of coffee and more attentive service would help make The Diner more "authentic" than the retro decor, but the fun, comfortable venue, with its tasty milkshakes (try the Jack Daniel's-infused Colonel Parker) and decent cocktails, still provides a much better alternative to scarfing down a kebab come pub closing time.

For me, this was a standout dish – the courgettes were cooked so that they retained their firmness while also giving way to a gooey centre, which was set off with sweet crispy onion and a rich yoghurt dressing.

This dish managed to pack sweet, tangy and savoury flavours all into one – although a little more blue cheese wouldn’t have gone amiss.

For the mains we ordered Moshe’s Herbed and Spiced Beef and Venison Koftas, served on a bed of hummus and tahini with grilled onions, harissa oil drizzle and pomegranate seeds.

The delicate flesh of the fish had dried lime running throughout which I found a little too bitter and overpowering at times, but overall an honest and tasty dish.

Delamina have certainly succeeded in bringing something a little different to the table in terms of flavour and concept.
