I’d visited the restaurant last year but I was keen to return to try a few of the new menu items plus introduce Mr S to this lovely little place.

The chifa chicharrones, crispy pork belly with sweet soy sauce, is the most popular dish on the menu and Mr S loved the juicy cubes of rich meat.

Though ceviche is usually raw fish marinated in citrus juices, Señor Ceviche presents other alternatives too such grilled Jerusalem artichoke and samphire marinated with tiger’s milk and confit tomatoes.

We tried two of the fish ceviches: The Spaniard ceviche combined sweet slices of sea bream with king prawns in a tomato and aji rocotto tiger’s milk.

Another of the restaurant’s signature dishes is the Señor Ceviche which is a classic concoction of sea bream and octopus with aji amarillo tiger’s milk, sweet potato puree, avocado, coriander, red onion and crispy squid.

In the week that plans have been announced for a second branch of Ceviche near Old Street, newcomer Pachamama is finding its feet in Marylebone, merging Peruvian influences with the best of British produce, and this one-time prolific pop-up is bedding into a permanent site in Soho’s Kingly Court.

Tucked away fairly out-of-sight on the court’s first-floor balcony, Señor Ceviche’s walls are plastered with neon-coloured Spanish-language signs, while Hispanic patterned tiles line a small bar area close to an open kitchen.

The house-special Señor Ceviche is a twist on a classic and features sea bream and cubed avocado served in tiger’s milk.

Tiger’s milk is the name given to the most common ceviche marinade: a mix of lime juice, chilli, garlic and coriander.

Señor Ceviche works on a small plates basis, meaning the dishes are all placed in the middle of the table to share and each diner given a side plate.

Brunch on Saturday: Señor Ceviche review: A veritable tour of some ...

That’s just one of the many items available on the Señor Ceviche brunch menu, which proves to be a veritable tour of some of Peru’s most famous dishes.

The aforementioned Señor Ceviche, which the restaurant takes its name from, on the other hand, is an outstanding mix of silky sea bass, slightly firm octopus, avocado, red onion and some more of that delicious sweet potato puree.

Señor Ceviche is a brilliant brunch option if you’re bored of the usual choices and you don’t require an egg on every dish you eat, just because it’s a Saturday.

400g potatoes, peeled and cut into 2cm dice 1 large onion, diced 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 tbsp olive oil 100g sweetcorn 1 tsp paprika 1 green chilli, sliced 1 tin of chopped tomatoes 4 medium eggs Fresh coriander Boil the potatoes for 6-7 minutes and drain.

In a large frying pan gently cook the onion in the olive oil until softened, add the potatoes and continue cooking until the potatoes just start to crisp a little.

ES Food Newsletter The popular Peruvian pop-up Señor Ceviche has just become a permanent fixture in Kingly Court, Soho.

It’s on the first floor of this bustling three-storey food court, with neighbouring eateries that include The Rum Kitchen, Pizza Pilgrims, Whyte Brown, The Life Goddess, Stax Diner and Shoryu.

The best dish was the jalea mixto with jalapeño tiger’s milk (£6.50), a mix of crisp tempura squid, prawns and fish in a mild spicy green sauce.

The signature Señor Ceviche dish (£8), with its cubes of sea bream, avocado, red pepper and fresh coriander, was like a deconstructed fishy guacamole and also good, while the Cusco quinoa (£6.50) — a salad of giant choclo corn (think crunchy butter beans), edamame beans, quinoa and crumbled queso — had a fresh, uncluttered taste.

And Harry Edmeades, aka Señor Ceviche, has had plenty of practice.

In 2012, after a stint at Lima’s renowned ceviche restaurant El Mercado, the 25-year-old British chef came back to London and started Don Ceviche, a pop-up with just five ceviches (raw fish cured in citrus juice).

Señor Ceviche is in Kingly Court, a faux-historic shopping courtyard just off Carnaby Street.

Sure, there are obvious design points, such as overhead venting ducts and the ubiquitous open kitchen but, rather than going all Soho-by-numbers, this is a slick London take on Lima’s boho Barranco District, with patterned floor tiles and chicha street-art posters the colour of highlighter pens.

‘Spaniard’ ceviche added just-cooked king prawns and crunchy chorizo to the sea bream in its tomato-laced citrus-chilli marinade (‘tiger’s milk’).
