Red Dog Saloon | Authentic American BBQ in London
Barbeque grew up in the South of the USA where cooks learned to slow roast cuts of meat over fire pits to make them tender.
Exposure to the smoke of the smouldering wood added a distinctive smoky taste to the meat.
The process could take many hours, leaving the meat tender and juicy.

Red Dog Saloon is an American BBQ joint specialising in Kansas BBQ, this is its 3rd site in London after the original on Shoredtich and a second site at Clapham.
Red Dog Saloon is perhaps best known for its infamous hot wing challenge, which I have managed to drag a friend to try it but failed miserably.
From my experience at its Shoreditch site, I knew the beef brisket is pretty outstanding so that was exactly what I went for along with the pork ribs.
But this time meal at Red Dog, the BBQ, especially the beef brisket was really top notch.
There are plenty of other American themed BBQ restaurants in London, but Red Dog is certainly one of the better ones.

Forget pie and mash or fish and chips: Londoners in search of comfort food are increasingly turning to the city’s American-inspired barbecue restaurants.
Red Dog Saloon’s restaurants in Hoxton and Clapham have built up a loyal following thanks to dishes such as slow-smoked brisket and hearty pulled pork sandwiches.
Red Dog Saloon is equipped with specially imported smokers, where meat is smoked over hickory wood for anything up to 16 hours to guarantee a seriously rich and aromatic result.
Tuck into barbecue classics including Saint Louis-cut ribs or pulled pork, served with your choice of sides such as barbecue beans, macaroni and cheese or collard greens.
The particularly ravenous will also appreciate the restaurant’s burger selection, which includes extravagant combinations such as the Devastator, an 18oz chuck steak burger piled high with 200g of pulled pork, six rashers of applewood-smoked bacon and six slices of American cheese.

As somebody who would call himself a bit of a seasoned pro when it comes to London burgers, I was already familiar with Red Dog Saloon’s outlet in Hoxton.
My usual forays into the world of Red Dog Saloon consist of going with a group of guys and encouraging the latest newcomer to try (and always fail) the Devastator Challenge, so to go there with female company was set to be a very new Red Dog experience, and a casual first date location.
Perhaps not the most elegant date food, but then again, when you’re in a burger bar you’ll struggle to find anything that is.
Nevertheless, both offerings lived up to the taste expected of a Red Dog Saloon; if I was nitpicking I’d have had mine slightly less well done, but overall they were flavoursome and definitely hit the spot.
The restaurant is located on Berwick Street in the heart of Soho, so if you’ve managed to avoid getting more of your burger on you than in you, there are plenty of lively pubs, bars and clubs nearby to enjoy with your date and make it a great night out in London.

After resounding successes in Hoxton and Clapham, Red Dog Saloon are venturing into the heart of London with their new Soho posting.
If you couldn't already guess from the name, these venues draw heavy influence from the wild west saloons formed during the height of the "Gold Rush".
Naturally, you should expect an assortment of American ornamentation here - buffalo skulls, longhorns and Native-American memorabilia are found furnishing the Hoxton and Clapham postings.
Soho is set to experience authentic American BBQ - top-quality cuts of meat slow-roasted over aromatic hickory wood in Red Dog Saloon’s award-winning smokers.
On top of that, this venue promises to have a cracking selection of booze to wash it all down - American beers, new-fangled Margarita concoctions and no fewer than 17 different sipping tequilas too!

Red Dog Saloon have planted their feet in Soho.
Red Dog Saloon doesn’t boast a lot of space but it has the advantage of being an intimate venue.
Many things contribute to a venues overall feel but for me, Red Dog’s calm and cool atmosphere is largely credited to its staff.
It didn’t come as any surprise that Red Dog Saloon was jam packed with men (it is a meat joint after all).
Their menu takes a smart bow to everything barbeque and they harbour an addictive collection of Margaritas that just can’t be ignored.
