food
Dozo is fitted out to imitate a traditional Japanese Tatami, complete with sunken wicker seating.
Aburi sushi is a sushi special at Dozo, made with bigger slices of fish or meat, which are lightly grilled.
Dozos black cod is marinated in saikyomiso for a period not shorter than 24hours, and then grilled.
If I am going to make quibbles, I would have to admit preferring my miso black cod to have much more colour than the version at Dozo.
Dozo offers traditional Japanese food and twists on the classics.
A lunch date in Soho at Dozo - SilverSpoon London
food menu
The menu is vast but as sushi lovers it wasn’t too hard for us to pick a few favourites and we started off by ordering seared tuna tataki with apple dressing.
Next we dove into a mixed sashimi salad with salmon, tuna and prawn, tobiko and delicious zesty citrus dressing.
We preferred the other choice, the spider rolls which were filled with soft shell crab, avocado, tobiko and rolled in sesame seeds.
A mixed sashimi platter on ice is always one of my favourites and we enjoyed the perfect slivers of salmon, tuna and magoro tuna.
Lauren and I really enjoyed our lunch at Dozo, if you find yourself in Old Compton Street, don’t miss it – it’s the ideal place for tasty sushi in a casual environment.
Dozo Sushi: where we played bento tic-tac-toe - The Girl Next Shore
food
There was quite a lot of crab filling – always good in my book – although I prefer the salmon skin rolls.
T’s mackerel in sea salt was okay but I think the star of her bento box was the chicken teriyaki which of course, I forgot to photograph (because I helped her finish the whole thing).
I ordered the surf and turf bento (£16.80) because it reminded me of family lunches/dinners in Saisaki EDSA (during its prime, golden days) where my dad’s favourite server would always greet our table with plates of Saisaki steak, salmon belly and tempura.
I quite liked the sushi rolls (yep, still thinking about that salmon skin maki), and though the bento boxes are quite pocket-efficient I reckon they could be better with a wee bit of tweaking here and there.

food
Dozo is a Japanese restaurant with two branches in London and one of these is located in Soho.
The restaurant serves a range of sushi including morden sushi maki rolls that are known as Dozo rolls.
My favourite is the Volcano Maki (8 p pieces) – eel, leeks, bonito flakes, eel sauce, avocado & mayonnaise (£15.80).
Combination of all the different flavours with Japanese mayonnaise makes a sauce that is addicting.
We tried their Curry Tori Don deep-fried chicken cutlet in breadcrumbs with Japanese curry sauce on rice (£8.80).

food value
This is one of two Dozos in London (the other is in South Kensington), and it comes from a group that has just opened the doors to Viet Food – an impressive new Vietnamese addition to Chinatown.
Dozo bills itself as a ‘Japanese fine dining restaurant’, though our experience is restricted to the more value-orientated lunchtime offerings.
Bento boxes, donburi, ramen and sushi sets – most with miso soup and a small salad included – are priced at an extremely reasonable £6.90.
We enjoyed serviceable sushi and sashimi, plus a big bowl of chilli beef ramen, with good depth to the stock and plentiful meat, veg, noodles and garnish.
As long your limbs can contort for those tables – or you’re prepared to leave your dignity at the door.
