Radio Alice Pizzeria, Hoxton Square. Online Booking, London ...

In an old school on Hoxton Square, Radio Alice Pizzeria has all the hallmarks of a destination pizzeria.

It's stylish - think solid marble topped bar and peeling paint walls - has easy drinking wines from Italy and top class pizzas.

Brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, who already have five successful pizzerias in Italy, have teamed up with Gails co-founder, Emma King, to bring their pizzas to London.

Topped with delicious, fresh ingredients, the gorgonzola, speck and honey combination, which comes with fiordilatte and walnuts, is especially good.

Alongside the pizzas, there's a short menu of piccoli including a fennel, orange and walnut salad - simple but so fresh and beautiful in the bowl.

The classic Italian menu features ‘Piccoli’ small plates including wonderfully flavoursome ‘Speck & apricots’ and creamy ‘Burrata with black pepper and oregano’.

The brothers aim to make their pizza bases both crispy and fluffy by using a mother yeast and ancient stone ground flour.

The ‘pizze’ menu is divided between ‘with’ or ‘without’ a tomato base, both are delicious.

The simple ‘Chocolate gelato’ was delightful, rich and moreish.

Radio Alice is a fun restaurant which is serious about making authentic and tasty pizzas.

Radio Alice, named after an Italian pirate radio station, is taking over the spot where Monikers was on Hoxton Square.

Their style of pizza was dubbed Berbere which is what they named their Italian chain.

We sneaked a peek at their Italian menus which have combos like Tomato, Nduja di Spilinga and Caciocavallo cheese and also Speck, gorgonzola, nuts, acacia honey and fiordilatte.

There'll also be a short menu of piccoli (small bites), and house made dolci. The examples we've been given is chocolate gelato with a liquorice brioche or maybe cucumber, lemon and mint sorbet with a dash of gin - so, not your usual Italian desserts then.

Wines will be ‎Italian and organic including a bag and box wine from Libera Terra and there's also the brothers' own beer, La Bassa, made in collaboration with Brew Fist in Italy.

Which is not to say that the pizzas we picked weren’t good: the anchovies on our cheeseless rosse were delicious, and the gorgonzola on the white bianche worked in fabulous tandem with the honey.

But, in a city fast filling with truly excellent pizza places, good is just that: no more, no less.

That said, Radio Alice is stylishly decorated, cosily lit, and a lovely space to spend a couple of hours.

The name, incidentally, comes from a 1970s Bologna pirate radio station whose remit was the radical and avant-garde.

Come on, it’s pizza!
