Old Street Records, Shoreditch

It’s time to all sing an Oasis song (personally, I like to go for Wonderwall, but each to their own…) 2) Old St Records bar in Shoreditch caters directly for that exact moment, when you want to throw your arms around strangers standing next to you and singalong to songs you haven’t listened to for at least 20 years.

4) While it isn't the trendiest place in Shoreditch, but it’s friendly and easygoing.

They have more live music but a completely different feel to upstairs: more underground jazz bar than singing along to “Kiss me” by Sixpence None The Richer.

While it’s impossible to walk across the upstairs bar without casually pressing against complete strangers, downstairs is relatively quiet so can offer you a completely different experience if that’s what you want.

10) All in all, Old St Records is loud, busy and if you join in, you will enjoy it.

They've kitted the bar out nicely, with a very respectable array of spirits and a cracking selection of craft beer, so it's little suprise the place gets packed early, and stays filled late into the night.

Come to eat lots of pizza, drink plenty, and then dance to whoever’s on that night.

This isn’t a place for haute mixology – the people tending the bar are, well, good and proper bartenders, not would-be scientists with a drink problem.

For a bar that’s doing party drinks, they’re actually pretty good at the classics – nothing wrong with the Manhattan or Sazerac at all.

We ended up on tequila shots and prosecco: good grief the next morning was awful, but that night the bar made us buoyant, so we drank like champions.

But fair play: this third branch of the ‘records’ gang (joining Venn Street Records in Clapham and Northcote Records in Battersea) is a fun enough hangout.

But there’s a cursory nod to the music theme, with records stacked tall on shelves.

Live music and DJs keep the place buzzing, with tunes blasting out in the cosier basement space, too.

Two-for-one offers on a sprawling cocktail list and deals on a small range of pizzas pushes Old Street Records fully into party territory.

This party pooper aside, Old Street Records seems to be in its groove.
