However, if you have a crêpe craving, you can find one a bit more easily these days, usually at a shop that is preparing ‘galettes’ – French crêpes made out of buckwheat flour (no relation to wheat, but check it is pure buckwheat and not also mixed with normal flour).

Several options for gluten free crêpes as there are three restaurants to choose from (also do takeaway): All stores open 7 days from mid morning until at least 9.30pm (some stores open until 11.30pm).

Camden Market – North Yard,  Camden Stables Market (near the Amy Winehouse statue) 7 days early morning until early evening (later on Fri/Sat) Gluten free buckwheat crêpes advertised.

The buckwheat crêpes here are naturally gluten free, and each day only a dedicated crêpe machine is used for the galettes to avoid cross contamination.

Les Deux Amies, a Crepe Reason to Visit Boxpark Croydon

It’s going on two years since I became acquainted with the founders of Les Deux Amies at Old Street Station and their “good food, good people” approach to running a crepe bar.

By the way, you can (and should) buy a jar of Les Deux Amies’ salted caramel and other treats such as homemade banana jam in-shop or online.

Les Deux Amies does savoury too, with a lengthy list of meat, fish, veg, nuts, spreads, fruits and more.

Mine was £5.75: As when launched a couple years ago, Les Deux Amies remains committed to working closely with charities, such as Emmaus, to support people in need through employment and “restore their self-esteem and find a new way and inspiration in their life.”

The brainchild of two friends longing for the crepes of their homeland, Les Deux Amies cook up a taste of France in Boxpark.

Using rustic recipes and carefully sourced ingredients, they create tantalising, cheese-smothered crepes.

Opened in 2011, Boxpark established itself in the heart of London’s Shoreditch to demonstrate that it was entirely possible to bring dining and fashion back to the street and provide fertile ground for independent and established retailers to reach a large audience in a big and eye-catching way.

Entirely constructed out of refitted shipping containers, Boxpark utilises a unique position in being able to offer affordable and flexible conditions for lifestyle brands, cafes, restaurants and galleries to trade and succeed.

After 5 successful years in Shoreditch, Boxpark is taking the leap south of the river into Croydon to premiere the first food and beverage only site, with over 200 events planned each year.

Galettes, crêpes and coffee from two Gallic gals.

Les Deux Amies is run by – you guessed it – two French friends, who sell crêpes and galettes with the usual Nutella and banana options, plus a few nods to the 21st century in the form of salted caramel and banana jam.

Coffee should be avoided at all costs – a cappuccino was mostly frothless milk; an Americano weak and watery; and a request for an (admittedly off-menu) flat white was met with confusion.
