Meet the Climpsons | Climpson & Sons

Ian started Climpson & Sons as Burgil Coffee in the early 2000s after moving back to the UK from Australia and seeing a lack of decent coffee in London.

The initial years’ operating a market stall on Broadway Market (which you can still go to today), before setting up a cafe - taking on the name Climpson & Sons, the old Butchers shop.

A big fan of DIY he started roasting coffee for himself and his mates started a brewery and then created the concept of Climpson's Arch by building his own bbq!

An Evin Cafe Brunch in Dalston | Tamarind and Thyme

Review analysis
food

We celebrated this last Sunday by hopping a train to Dalston; we were in search of Turkish food for brunch.

I already had a place in mind – Evin Cafe, where fresh gözleme could be found, a Turkish filled flatbread I’d been wanting to try.

It may not look like much but it was fresh and delicious all scooped up with the basket of sesame-studded Turkish bread that came with our food.

The günün çorbasi (soup of the day – £3.50) was lentil that Sunday and I had to have it, having heard great things about Turkish lentil soups.

Last to arrive from the front of the restaurant was our cheese and spinach gözleme (£2.50); it was bigger than we both expected with its ends falling off the plate.

It’s not easy finding Turkish breakfasts in London, but Red Art opens early and offers several versions of menemen, a hearty dish of scrambled eggs, tomatoes and green peppers, similar to the North African shakshouka.

The sucuk (sausages) version comes in a large silver pan with a basket of bread – it’s a fantastic breakfast and good value at around £4.50.

Balık ekmek, a grilled mackerel sandwich, is even harder to find in London, and we think this may be the only version.

It might not be as fresh as the just-caught version sold along the banks of the Bosphorus, and it could do with some chilli and lemon, but it’s good enough to sate our cravings.
