Wildflower – Urban Junkies
food drinks menu
While Peckham has enough great pubs and street food stands to stop you from ever leaving, luxe and laid back is harder to come by.
In the evening, lights are dim with an orange hue, ceilings are low, everything is on wheels, and the transient nature of the smart canteen space (designed by Busby Webb) brings a fresh feel to dinner: watch the band or don’t, stay for another cocktail or explore the rest of Peckham Levels (find that half pipe!)
The consistencies with Frank’s are pleasing: thick wedges of flatbread with chilli oil and hummus (yes, flatbread to actually write home about) are identical to those served two floors above in the summer, and it brings a context to the restaurant that has the potential to feel a little lost in such a huge project (street food stands and bars sit just around the corner from Wildflower, so there’s a lot of competition, even in house).
In fact, the standard of food here does quite the opposite, setting Wildflower above and beyond its local counterparts.
Wildflower is entirely vegetarian and mostly vegan, and you’d hardly realise.

A Veggie Restaurant In A Car Park, It Doesn't Get Much More Peckham Than This A ‘vegetarian and vegan canteen’ in a converted car park in Peckham; it’s hard to describe Wildflower without the inevitable hipster association.
If you like experimental food combinations, then you’ll like Wildflower - hipster, veggie or otherwise.
The dinner menu is made up of 12 plates, ranging from the light marinated olives to the more sizeable smoked tofu.
The calçots are tasty, if not a bit simple; it's hard to get excited about two spring onions on a plate.
Served with a tart brambley apple purée, walnuts and pickled onion, the plate is a beautiful marriage of sweet and savoury, and is our favourite dish.

Veggie and vegan canteen Wildflower arrives at Peckham Levels ...
food
Summing it all up: Catering for the artists, makers and visitors of Peckham’s new community-led creative hub comes Wildflower, providing healthy, animal-free food in a relaxed canteen-style atmosphere.
Peckham Levels has only just opened its doors (and is sounding very good indeed, by the way) and one of its new stars is the in-house canteen that’ll be providing vegan and veggie food.
It’s a very laid back affair, and only open until 4pm, so don’t go expecting fancy table service, as instead Wildflower is keen to emphasise its “relaxed, communal atmosphere".
The team behind it, Parched London, have also worked on The Montpelier, The White Horse, EDWIN’s Restaurant and Brixton Port Authority.

We Review: Wildflower
food menu
What: Wildflower is a pretty Instagrammable, new vegan and vegetarian restaurant that has found a home at Peckham Levels.
On the menu: The menu changes fairly often and when we went the normally vegetarian and vegan mash up comprised of only vegan dishes.
Previous menu items have included Swede fondue with pickled veggies and warm buns, grilled king oyster mushroom in a Szechuan and shitake broth with chilli and red cabbage, and sweet potato gratin with rhubarb chutney, Cashel Blue and bitter leaves.
The Look: Wildflower is a bit of a nightmare to find unless you’ve been to Peckham Levels before which I hadn’t so I ended up walking back and forth the high street (ironically heaving with butchers) a few times before eventually finding the right road with the right alley attached.
Apart from tofu sneaking onto the menu, everything else is a “normal” ingredient which is how I imagine vegan and vegetarian cooking; real ingredients, expertly put together.
