authentic, fresh, and it came with lentil soup in the beginning and baklava and Arabic tea complimentary with the meal.

Melur is a pleasing mix of bronze tiled flooring, redwood tables, brown leather seats and a glass-fronted bar, where expats, students and office workers gather for cheap, cheerful Malaysian eats.

Sambal udang (stir-fried prawns with a chilli condiment) was deliciously piquant.

But mee goreng mamak, a stir-fried noodle dish with a tomato undertone, was let down by overcooked chicken.

We finished with bubur cha cha, a typical Malaysian dessert of sweet potato, yam and sago pearls with coconut milk.
