Symposium: A Social Body Event | Serpentine Galleries

This symposium-like event, beginning from John Latham's concept of the 'Body Event', was organised by Cally Spooner as part of her participation in the group exhibition 'Speak' at Serpentine Sackler Gallery.

The event considered the body event as social, and explored the contemporary demands for this social body to be event-managed.

Through a number of talks, readings, performances and film screenings, the event studied the social body as variously conceived in communities, teams in workplaces, corporations, through to general public - and ventured into moments that these 'bodies' might increasingly become upset, unruly, leaky, hacked or resistant.

Participants included: Dodie Bellamy, Earle Brown (performed by William Crosby, Andrew Morgan, Lucy Railon, Joe Zeitlin), Tania Bruguera / Hannah Arendt International Institute for Artivism (INSTAR), Evan Calder Williams, Tyler Coburn, Akwugo Emejulu in conversation with Victoria Lidchi, Anna Halprin, Jesper List Thomsen, Nina Power / The London Student Assembly, the Artist Placement Group (APG) and Yugoexport / Irena Haiduk.

This gathering was the third in a series of five, organised by Cally Spooner as part of her Stanley Picker Fellowship at Kingston University.

Our menu represents a fusion of modern and traditional Italian cuisine driven by a passion for quality food, using only fresh and seasonal ingredients.

This unique and authentic interpretation of the Italian dishes is brought about by our head chef, Federico, a Roman on the Roman, along with sous chef Edoardo from Tuscany.

Their take on regional Italian cuisine is also highlighted in our monthly wine tasting and food pairing evenings.

Our extensive wine list is lovingly sourced from small producers with a particular focus on natural, biodynamic and organic Italian wines.

Symposium hosts wine tasting evenings and supper clubs and takes bookings for private parties.
