FORMAN'S SMOKEHOUSE GALLERY

Sara Le Roy’s solo exhibition 3D Tales will be the UK’s first 3D painting exhibition, opening at Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery in Hackney, London on 23rd February.

Exposing the sinister side of fairytales including Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and Red Riding Hood often sugar-coated by the film industry, le Roy’s paintings explore the sexualised nature and idolisation of our favourite childhood characters.

Le Roy has worked closely with Casta Diva Pictures, the leading 3D film designers, to create the perfect 3D effect for her paintings.

Le Roy has exhibited worldwide, including Aeroplastics Contemporary in Brussels and State-Of -The-Art Gallery in Hong Kong.

Thornton’s own artworks are owned by the likes of Madonna, Ivana Trump, Kate Moss, Jaime Winstone and Joanna Lumley.

Our main event space on the second floor of our iconic smokehouse is also known as Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery.

Floor 2, also known as Forman's Smokehouse Gallery, is a chic and unique industrial-style space of 635 sq m, reflecting the architectural structure of the Olympic stadium, which it directly faces.

The space is adaptable and has been used for a myriad of events from private dinners for 30 people, award dinners for up to 320, to cocktail parties for 700 people.

Other features include natural daylight, a large private roof terrace (135 sq m) with views over the Olympic Park, private entrance, built in dance floor, bar and LED structural lighting to suit your colour theme (perfect for weddings this is available as an optional add-on).

The space is also used as an art gallery and the art can remain to adorn the walls of your event or be removed to allow for your own branding and theme.

There were two policemen patrolling the road outside Forman’s restaurant, and really what I should have done was alert them to the robbery that had just taken place in the premises behind them.

Weekend’s editor had asked me to review Forman’s, the restaurant closest to the Olympic Park.

Once at Forman’s we were greeted by a breathless waitress who informed us that we could help ourselves to a cold starter at the buffet and she could take our order for the hot breakfast which was “like, either your full English with beans and that or hot smoked salmon with poached egg and that”.

My dining companion, by now unable to speak with her jaw dragging on the floor in astonishment at the scandal being unleashed upon her head, decided against the buffet, preferring to partake of the English sparkling wine on offer.

But if, after charging me £75 for my breakfast, Lance Forman requires a change of occupation, a career in stand-up comedy surely awaits.

Meal for two, including drinks and service: £160 If the Guinea Grill in Mayfair was a new opening it would be hotter than the cooking range by the dining room door over which they flame their steaks.

It would be full of bloggers holding their smart phones high and flat over plates of prime Scottish beef, and lifestyle journalists swooning at the commitment to old-fashioned virtues; to the application of frilly paper collars around steak and kidney pies.

I was brought here by a Radio 4 producer of the old school, who believed most things could be solved via the committed application of grilled animal and red wine.

A sirloin steak is thick cut, medium rare as promised, but properly seared until the outer layer on the ribbon of fat gives a light crack beneath your teeth.

■ Another great standard bearer for steak throughout the dark years was Popeseye, named after a cut of rump.

When it was displaced by the development of the Olympic Park, London’s oldest salmon smoker – established in the early 20th century to supply London’s Jewish community with Baltic salmon – moved to a prime site just across the Lea Navigation from the Olympic Stadium.

Forman's salmon obviously features prominently on the menu, in a salmon and crab salad with fennel and apple, or served with buckwheat blinis.

The wine list features a range of English bottles, from Three Choirs, Chapel Down, Bacchus, Denbies and Biddenden.

There's a short cocktail list, too.
