Looking forward to going back to this place.

Great place.

Had a really good evening here last Friday.

The food and wine were really good.

I ate the bresaola and the zucchini with rocket - so good

It’s also home to upmarket restaurants Odette’s and Lemonia, and a Tuscan wine bar and shop called Negozio Classica that’s owned by a winery (there’s a branch in Notting Hill too).

Their specialty are Montepulciano wines made from the sangiovese grape grown in their vineyards in Tuscany – not to be confused with the better known Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, made with the Montepulciano grape from central Italy. But back on chic north London soil (pun intended), we’re here for dinner, as there is a fully fledged restaurant on two floors.

Meat and cheese are the focus of the menu, which has clearly been designed to go with the wines on offer rather than the other way round.A dish of culatello and Parmesan has sizeable rashers of the prized Parma ham, which is aged for longer than other varieties.

There is smooth prosecco for starters, an oaked Chardonnay called Marzocco paired with the first course, and the fruity red Etna Rosso, which as the name suggests is made from grapes grown on the volcanic soil of Mount Etna.

Such a fierce dessert wine might not complement most sweet courses, however it’s a perfect match for the baked ricotta cheesecake we’ve ordered, as it’s rich without being overly sweet.Diners seem to be well acquainted with the place; some ask for their regular tables, some eat full meals and others just pop in for wine or coffee.

Experience the friendly and lively atmosphere of an Italian bar.

Meet people and talk about football, politics and the weather, maybe standing at the bar drinking a cappuccino.

Taste one of the many Italian wines, each with its own history and origin, relax in an armchair and lighten your mood by dreaming of the places they so strongly evoke.

Aside from Italian wines, NEGOZIO CLASSICA also has a range of beverages to choose from including: a unique beer from Teo Musso, an impressive collection of whiskies and rums selected by Ernesto Mainardi and grappas, cognacs, ports and the finest French champagnes.NEGOZIO CLASSICA tasting menu creates the best suggestions for combining an exceptional vintage with the freshest cheeses, meats or cured hams.

CLASSICA's food  include extravirgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars, handmade Gragnano pastas, handpicked Oro Rosso saffron from Navelli, Onano lentils, a host of pasta sauces and marinated vegetables such as artichokes from the renowned Relais Gourmets.

Part owned by Tuscany’s Avignonesi winery, Negozio Classica is set up to showcase the full range of Avignonesi wines in the best way possible – serving them by the glassful.

There’s also a careful selection of other Italian wines, many of them organic or biodynamic.

In addition to the 25 or so by-the-glass offerings (starting at a considerate £4), there’s a monthly ‘flight’: introductory tasters of three wines from a particular region, served in elegant glassware by an enthusiastic sommelier.

Visit the Portobello store at cocktail hour, however, and you might think you’d arrived at the Aperol centre of London, as the entire premises – back room, bar, window seats and half the pavement – are packed with slick-suited Italian business men, artfully torn-jean and Prada toters, colourful local shopkeepers and gossip-sharing ladies, all clutching huge glasses brimming with bright orange Aperol spritz.

We couldn’t resist pouring a little Occhio di Pernice, a fantastically concentrated dessert wine akin to fig balsamic, over a wobbly vanilla panna cotta – sheer heaven.
