Restaurant review: Wagamama by Stephen Vowles – Boyz

There are a lot of great eating places on Dean Street in London’s Soho and with the arrival of a branch of Wagamama now also on the street – at 81 to be precise – the chain makes a very welcome addition to the street.

Opting for the short rib and grilled duck donburi ramens from the Omakase selection for our mains, these chef’s special dishes fresh from the kitchen came as very generous portions and would satisfy most appetites.

Partnering those dishes, sides we chose included steamed buns (pork belly and panko apple along with mixed mushroom and panko aubergine), chilli squid and chicken gyoza.

Fresh juices are also available, with the Clean Green (kiwi, avocado and apple) refreshing and palate cleansing.

Wagamama Dean Street is open Monday to Saturday from 11am until 11pm, and Sunday from 11am until 10pm.

Wagamama have very recently launched their new ‘innovative’ kitchen in Soho where the public can try out never-been-seen before dishes and give direct feedback.

Last month they unveiled ‘noodle lab’ – a new creative test kitchen in the heart of Soho, where they’re giving the public the chance to try and rate their new Asian-inspired dishes.

The menu is said to reflect Wagamama’s core belief and the Japanese philosophy ‘kaizen’ – which means ‘good change’, or continual positive improvement.

The sweet potato and red pepper slices are light, soft and easy to eat, the hint of sweet and sour sauce makes the tempura more flavoursome.

This has also come from the test menu and it goes well with all the dishes, particularly the glass noodle salad and the Ika Katsu.
