Apart from not being one of the three Ps, Lebanese food is vegetarian-friendly and gluten-light – essential for my delicate veggie dining companion the Flame Haired Squelchie.

Joining the Squelchie and I was Templeton Peck, a fellow carnivore.

Thrown in for free with our order was a large supply of rather chewy kobez flatbread and a tzatziki that was far too watery which did not impress the Squelchie who has roots in the Near East.

Both Templeton and Squelchie were turned off by the Fattet Hummus B’laban, a mixture of boiled chickpeas, fried bread, garlic, yoghurt and pine kernels.

Squelchie and Templeton were more fond of the fried bread than I was, but we all liked the fresh, light and zesty vegetables.

I also have fond memories of a restaurant named Le Cedre in Zurich, which is close to where I grew up.

There was a slight language barrier as we asked some questions about the food, but we finally placed our order and almost immediately after were presented with a very large, complimentary bowl of vegetables (salad, carrots, peppers, and more); a very pleasant surprise!

We had not quite finished our starters when our plates were removed and replaced with fresh ones for the main courses.

We then received an extremely large plate of fruit, which, like the initial vegetables, was unexpected and slightly unnecessary.

Maroush was a good experience, but as far as Lebanese food goes, give me Yalla Yalla every time!

It's my go to restaurant when I'm around London.

It's located right in the centre of London, a couple of minutes from Oxford Circus underground.

The place has two levels, at the ground floor you can see the kitchen and the cooks preparing your meal.

The upper level has more space and is a bit quieter, if you are a party of 4 people or more you should ask if they can sit you there, that's my recommendation.

Maroush V | Restaurants in Oxford Street, London

This Bond Street branch of one of London's longest-running Lebanese restaurants offers dining across three floors.

If you're after a quiet or intimate space the mezzanine should fit the bill, while the ground floor is more buzzy.
