** Swallow Street, Piccadilly FishWorks is the latest addition to the FishWorks family and is an absolute essential for seafood lovers.

The restaurant offers a traditional wet fish counter where you can buy fish to take home and cook yourself, or you can select any fish or crustacean with FishWorks' fishmonger and have it cooked there and then to your liking.

This chic stylish restaurant is only minutes away from the bustle of Piccadilly hidden away in an exclusive street.

You can also eat alfresco on the sunny terrace - a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

The whole restaurant opens its glass window faà§ade doors creating a fantastic atmosphere great for corporate dining and enjoying a pre-theatre meal before hitting the west end.

As I was wandering the streets of Bath recently, miles from the nearest ocean, I initially thought that the noise of seagulls must be a sound effects recording emanating from loudspeakers at the top of the FishWorks building.

Just as I can detect bad hydrogenated oil and industrial garlic powder from a mile away, so I can spot the inviting aroma of really fresh fish cooked with fresh garlic in the purest oil, and I could tell this would be a great place to eat.

The salted Cantabrian sea anchovies that followed were fat and exquisite, simply served with first-class olive oil, garlic and flat-leaf parsley.

Pluckily countering a century of absurd prejudice, the restaurant offers several red wines to drink with fish, alongside plenty of whites.

That's due in large measure to owner Mitchell Tonks, but also to the freshness and variety of fish on offer each day (the economies of selling directly to the public allow them to carry a selection that a stand-alone restaurant could never afford), along with the efficient and unfussy atmosphere.

The Marylebone branch of this small chain of seafood restaurants is cleverly decked out in subtle nautical themes to hint at their speciality.

As well as a restaurant, FishWorks is a fishmongers, so you can pick your seafood and request it be cooked just the way you like it.

FishWorks' sister branch is in Mayfair.

The Mayfair branch of this small chain of seafood restaurants is handsome and cleverly designed, thanks to dark wooden furniture, greeny-grey colours, and the nifty use of wine racks to divide up the space.

Most of the fish is from Devon and the south coast.

Options range from oysters, whole Devon crab and Nova Scotia lobster thermidor to seared yellowfin tuna nicoise, Arbroath smokies with a freshly poached duck egg and chervil butter, lobster linguine and oven-roasted sea bass with fresh lemon thyme, olive oil and Cornish sea salt.

The wine list focuses on whites, though some reds do feature, too.

FishWorks' sister branch is in Marylebone.
