The Grazing Goat, Marylebone, London Hotel Reviews

Children are welcome though it's not ideal for young kids as there are no family facilities, and lots of stairs.

The restaurant's buzzy atmosphere and children's menu make it well-suited to families – there was a lovely mix of groups, couples and families with young children when we visited on a Saturday lunchtime.

The Superior room and 2 of the Standard rooms (C and F) can fit a rollaway bed.

All rooms can hold a travel cot.

Boutique hotel the Grazing Goat in Marylebone, London, is about 15 minutes from my Bloomsbury flat on public transport.

The pub is hidden behind heaving Oxford Street on a row of charming, independent stores and little restaurants, offering a boutique alternative to some of the other big, chain hotels that gather here.

Slipping inside the front doors and out of the freezing London fog, we pass the entrance to the pub and make our way up a winding staircase to the restaurant.

It’s late and the restaurant is busy, but a member of staff quickly confirms our reservation, grabs some keys and charges up three floors to the top of the building and our superior-sized room.

As I sink beneath the water, scented with orange-blossom bath salts, Mr Smith takes advantage of the fact that drinks are literally on tap (since we’re staying in a pub) and orders champagne to the room.

Another proficient operation from the Cubitt House group – the people who brought us elegant spots such as the Thomas Cubitt in Belgravia, and the Orange Public House in Pimlico.

Marble Arch may seem a bit north for them, but this is Portman Village, where their contemporary country house look goes down as smoothly as a glass of champers.
