106 Baker Street Cafe Review - @AboutLondon Laura

106 Baker Street chooses to be represented instead by a series of bespoke illustrations allowing the food to speak for itself, I’m told.

The cafe is located next to the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes Hotel on Baker Street but there is little else of note on this stretch of the street.

Italian chef Daniele Pampagnin is behind 106 Baker Street and he already has TOZI Restaurant & Bar in London and 5&33 in Amsterdam so I have to presume he knows what he is doing.

But before anything else arrived we had to place an order so I went for gluten-free carrot cake, a Sicilian watermelon juice and a tea.

But I will stand by my point that an eaterie website which chooses black and white illustrations over a real menu or actual images of the food they serve is selling themselves short.

106 Baker Street, by contrast, would be high on health professionals’ list of places we should dine.

The café is run day-to-day by Pampagnin’s former colleague Alessandro Schiavon, with ingredients sourced mostly from markets in the capital, and everything is freshly prepared on site.

Alongside sandwiches and quiches you can order hot dishes with three salads on the side for just £7.50.

The salads — pearl barley, tomato and a mix of brown quinoa, pumpkin and pomegranate — were so fresh and zinging with health that I developed a superiority complex eating them, and then later that evening used them to justify a drunken, dirty burger.
