Popular vegan fast food outlet Temple of Seitan is opening its second location in London today (January 31st)!

Temple of Seitan caused a huge stir when they opened their first vegan fried ‘chicken’ shop location in Hackney (10 Morning Lane, E9 6NA London).

But now hungry vegans will now be able to get their hands on all manner of delicious vegan junk food without trekking over to Hackney as Temple of Seitan’s second location opens in Camden today.

The new location is called Temple of Camden, and the owners have called it a ‘proper restaurant’ rather than their standard takeaway spot in Hackney thanks to the fact this venue has indoor seating so diners can enjoy their meal in store.

Not only are Temple of Seitan making waves and showing people just how easy it is to be vegan with their delicious vegan menu, they are now also certified as an accredited “Living Wage Employer”, meaning all workers including third-party contract staff receive the Foundation-backed hourly rate.

The popular vegan fried ‘chicken’ shop, Temple of Seitan, has announced that it will open a second shop in Camden on the 31 January.

The group made the announcement on Instagram late on Friday, saying: “We are so stoked to finally announce the opening date and location of the brand new Temple of Camden.

The one time market stall, Temple of Seitan, by Melbourne duo Rebecca McGuinness and her husband Pat O’Shea, has proved a hit within the food community — making not one but two appearances on this site in the past two months — despite facing a moderate backlash when it opened last January.

Temple do burgers, ‘wings’ and ‘strips’ — crisped and deep-fried in the style found at any number of the chicken shops all over the city.

Having turned vegan, it was a longing for fried chicken that inspired the creation of Temple.

What's The Vegan Fried Chicken Shop Actually Like?

Lucky then, that Temple of Hackney is on hand for London's vegans, opening a permanent vegan chicken shop.

Despite the freezing January cold, these hardcore vegans were obviously desperate for their fried chicken (or fried seitan — a vegetarian meat alternative).

We tried some chicken shop staples: two pieces of 'chicken' with chips, a 'chicken' burger, coleslaw and cans of (fairtrade) fizzy drink.

As for the chips, they were fantastic — none of that soggy nonsense you sometimes get in chicken shops — if a tad salty, so you won't be needing a Chicken Connoisseur-esque salt'n'shake.

A vegan fried "chicken" shop has opened in London prompting a full spectrum of reactions from fast-food lovers in the capital.

Delighted crowds descended on Temple of Hackney, that opened its doors this week, billed as the world’s first meat free fried "chicken” shop.

The “chicken” in question is made from seitan, a wheat protein with a meat-like texture.

She started making it with seitan and launched a street-food stall, Temple of Seitan, on Brick Lane in East London last year.

Many users were quick to defend the chicken shop, with one writing: “Dude... Seitan is wheat gluten!

‘Vegan chicken shop’ might be an oxymoron verging on the ridiculous, but it’s now a thing and it’s in Hackney (obviously).

This is the sequel to a street stall called Temple of Seitan – seitan being a meaty vegan substance made of wheat gluten.

If you’ve never tried seitan, it’s tougher than tofu, and chewier and less stringy than your average chicken wing – and of course bone-free.

Served popcorn-style or in a sub with chilli sauce and vegan mayo, this totally hits the chicken spot.

Add zingy red slaw with parsley stalks or vegan mac’n’cheese with smoky seitan bacon cubes and you’ve got a properly delicious, not-at-all-wholesome dinner.
