When we went to the Village Kitchen last month for our anniversary, they were advertising their new menu launch night – and we were lucky enough to get one of the last tables available!

I’m not saying that I don’t like all of those other places (apart from the Nag’s) but why it’s my favourite eatery in Walthamstow village.

Lamb is my favourite meat in the world – if I could only eat one meat for the rest of my life, it would even outrank bacon!

, and after all that rich spicy stew and lamb, I had the most zingy lovely lemon and lime tart with chantilly cream and raspberry coulis!

We also got talkign to a guy and his dad on the next table – his dad had the kangaroo steak, and I happened to mention that Timmy was probably going to be stuck down the well a lot longer this time 😉  It’s so great that Walthamstow is so friendly!

I have been visiting the Village Kitchen fairly regularly since the beginning of the year (probably been about once a month) and have never had a bad experience. It is just up the road from me so it is a lovely treat to take a book and sit and relax while being looked after by Hannah, the ever wonderful waitress.

Now that's service above and beyond what you would receive in most places I suspect! The food has always been lovely, cooked just as requested, and there is no skimping on the servings.

The white chocolate cheesecake is to die for, and Hannah rustles up a fabulous Raspberry Bellini too.It is also lovely to be recognised when I walk in and greeted in such a friendly way.

Hannah also knows I am there to relax and asks the kitchen not to rush my meal so I can enjoy myself (without my even having to ask).

After all their experiences, they reckoned their meal at the Village Kitchen was one of the best that they had had.Great value, highly recommended and I'll be back!

Despite this wash of smart new eateries, however, the Village Kitchen on Orford Road has stood firm, offering some of the capital’s finest, affordably priced international dishes in a dining room which treads the line between chic and traditional.

For those that choose to visit London’s Village Kitchen, out east in Walthamstow, dinner is particular treat.

Under the careful guidance of Spiros Ragavelas, the kitchen are spinning plates of classically prepared international dishes like pan seared pigeon breast, Thai fishcakes and tandoori chicken breast.

For diners with a sweet tooth, the team do an excellent line in desserts, the summer fruit Eton mess is the kind of moreish treat that pairs nicely with a glass of white wine on a hot day while the cheese board is an excellent option in the winter.

The Village Kitchen is open daily for dinner and for lunch Thursday and Friday and all day at the weekend.
