I walked up Queens Road, crossed Hoe Street and made a bee-line for Mothers Ruin, not because I was hitting the gin early, but because I was off to visit Perky Blenders.
Run by a chap called Tom, Perky Blenders roast coffee and create their own blends right here in E17.
Along with his retail operation and planned coffee clubs, Tom also intends to bring Perky Blenders to St James Street Station.
As we chatted he asked if I wanted a drink, I don’t drink that much coffee normally, but you know, when in Rome.
I’ve read loads of good stuff on social media about the delivery service, and I’m sure he will make a killing when he arrives at St James Street Station.

The room looks fantastic, and having the old ceiling back on view gives a real sense of the history of the pub.
Re-named the Sourdough Saloon, the double height room is home to the pubs pizza kitchen, which specialises in pizzas made with sourdough bases.
It’s nice to still have a bit of old pub in the new pub.
With its massive suntrap beer garden, great food, and friendly staff, the re-opened dog should make a good addition to the Walthamstow pub scene.
You can read more on the pubs Facebook page, or you can pay the Dog & Duck a visit at 222 Chingford Road.

location drinks value
Our destination was Project 660, the new cafe opened by Perky Blenders on Leyton High Road.
Located next door to Leyton Midland Station, Project 660 is a coffee shop, training academy, and home to an impressive industrial grinder/coffee roaster.
The new coffee shop seems a world away from that cold day on an industrial in Walthamstow when I first chatted with Tom.
As well as the coffee shop they also run a kiosk in Leytonstone Station, they pop up at events and locations across Waltham Forest, there’s a stall at the Village Market, and of course the delivery and retail business.
But the new Perky Blenders shop really isn’t that far from Walthamstow, you don’t need a passport to get to it, and the service and quality of the coffee makes it worth the trip.

Photo: SE The best pun-tastic name ever (at least for a beans purveyor in east London) has just opened probably the best coffee shop in the area.
You will of course be aware that a few months back E17 coffee merchants Perky Blenders landed right in the heart of Leytonstone’s manically busy underground station.
Perky Blenders – that’s Tom, Adam and Victoria – are small batch, speciality grade coffee roasters, who have carts and concessions across east London.
Photo: SE At this new shop there’s a shabby chic salvaged furniture-filled main room (pictured above), with a cute garden out back, which plays host to all manner of pop-ups and one-offs, from Vietnamese suppers to cocktail clubs.
