Julius Caesar at The Bridge Theatre - London Lamppost

Review analysis
food   drinks   ambience

Coming on the back of the critically acclaimed Young Marx, The Bridge Theatre has another stunning production on its hands in the shape of Julius Caesar by Nicholas Hytner.

When the bell announces the start of the play you are invited into either the upper seating region or onto the lower concourse to the “pit”, specially created for this production.

Having left the National Theatre where he brought renewed life and vigour, Nicholas Hytner has allowed himself free rein to imbue his productions with more overt political overtones to draw attention to the swirling extreme political times we find ourselves in.

In my personal opinion Julius Caesar at the Bridge Theatre, is one of the, if not the most impressive and enjoyable plays I’ve ever been to.

Katzenjammers: The German Beer Hall at Borough Market - London ...

So on Wednesday, as one of our irregular meet ups myself and some friends went out for some food.

I was feeling particularly hungry so went for the sausage platter; selection of five sausages served on a bed of sauerkraut or red cabbage.

My companions got the Jager Schnitzel (hunter style schnitzel with a dark mushroom sauce), spätzle (Bavarian pasta with cheese and onions) and a small sausage plate.

I love this style of German food.

By the time we left 3 different beers had been ‘sampled’; Paulaner hefe-weissbier dunkel (dark wheat beer), Rosarda (Belgian rose beer made with summer berries) and Floris Apple (delicious Belgian fruit beer made with apples).

The Oxo Tower Brasserie - London Lamppost

Review analysis
menu   food   drinks

When it comes to dining locations, it’s pretty hard to beat the Oxo Tower with its dining balcony, double height picture postcard windows and views along the river from the Houses of Parliament to Tower Bridge taking in St. Paul’s and The City.

Both the brasserie and the restaurant offer the same views and great food, the only real difference is that the latter is slightly more expensive, formal and spacious with a menu to match.

The Oxo Tower Brasserie menu is classic modern European; designed to be light and flavour packed, even offering salads as a main or starter, and plenty of fish.

The quality of the food and views make the Oxo Tower Brasserie a great venue, and while the main a la carte does add up, it has a three course pre/post theatre menu at £30 a head.
