A pizza made at Tomo Pizzeria in Hornsey, rated one of the best restaurants in London for value.Tomo Pizzeria London is an expensive city, especially if you like to eat out at restaurants.

OpenTable analysed over 400,000 reviews from diners on its website, ranking the city's restaurants according to price and quality.

Review: Rossella, Highgate Road | Kentishtowner

Luckily his dad is well versed in the restaurant game and the two of them have set about turning this once difficult site into Luca’s first venture.

The spot was formerly occupied by Pasta Habit, providing good value if uninspiring hot lunches to the workers from Highgate Studios; and dinners to a loyal local family contingent.

Luca is very evidently a fantastic people person, attending to each of the tables in turn, and on first name terms with many of the diners, even though the restaurant is still a relatively new arrival.

Starters of avocado and prawn, plus a decent-sized bruschetta, reminded of average holiday food rather than a serious new addition to the NW5 food scene.

Pasta has a ‘home cooked’ feel, but only in the sense that we could have knocked it up easily at home ourselves.

A family-run local trattoria in the truest sense, Rossella is a neighbourhood favourite cooking up fresh, tasty and authentic Italian food.

The family have south Italian roots, and the owner of Rossella (Luca Meola) is the son of the owner of Luigi's in East London (Luigi Meola), which has been trading for over three decades.

Many of their pasta and pizza plates come in at our magic £8 mark anyway, but at lunch, the cheap eat options extend as they offer a slightly different menu.

The spinach tortellini in sage butter I had came recommended, generously piled on my plate, with a bowl of parmesan to go crazy with.

Perfectly cooked tortellini with a fabulous butter sauce, this made a terrific al fresco lunch to sit back and relax with.

Inside, it’s small and low-lit, with murals and an ice-cream bar up front.

Rossella’s a neighbourhood restaurant in the old-fashioned sense of the word.

There was also a lovely caprese salad: a fat ball of mozzarella perched precariously on top of two garlicky slices of hot ciabatta.

All priced between £6-£8, they’re large and gloriously un-trendy: both classic (napoli, margherita) and Americanised (‘feast’, four seasons) variations were served hot and oozy on thin crispy bases without any fuss.

If I could pick my last meal on earth – for pure comfort factor – Rossella’s spaghetti napoli would be it.
