In a nutshell: Seasonal brasserie food and drink on Kentish Town Road Summing it all up: 300 Kentish Town Road has just been taken over again, this time by seasonally focused brasserie Neighbour, who’ll be catering for locals and visitors to The Forum with lunch, brunch, dinners and drinks above ground, plus cocktails in basement bar Jukes.

The restaurant at 300 Kentish Town Road has been through several cycles over the years, from the Kentish Canteen with its hearty salads and burgers to the recently closed to BBQ joint Joe’s Southern Kitchen and Bar - but nothing so far has seemed to stick.

Now Neighbour is having a go, with a seasonal menu of brasserie-style food and a new interior (have a look at their Instagram if you’re curious.)

The food will be seasonal so, for now, the menu contains summery plates like sea trout with pea salsa, and zingy fritto misto with salsa verde.

However, if you’re serious about getting in a real drink here, it’ll be Jukes downstairs you’ll be wanting, who’re taking over the cozy little basement bar.

Photo: Twitter The site briefly occupied by Joe’s Southern Kitchen (and before it the lovely Kentish Canteen) today launches as Neighbour, a new bar and restaurant offering “stunning seasonal food, great wines and carefully crafted drinks”.

Nodding to what the owners rightly call the “vibrant social community on its doorstep”, Neighbour will do that all-day-long breakfast-to-dinner thing.

Neighbour Bar & Restaurant - London, | OpenTable

Neighbour is an independent bar and kitchen in the heart of Kentish Town, serving up banging burgers, vegan-friendly superfood salads, seriously tasty sides, house-crafted sauces and downright dirty desserts.

Behind the bar you'll find an impressive craft and draught beer selection, stone-cold cocktail classics and 'Neighbour Irregulars', plus hard shakes, naughty shots and a carefully curated wine list.

Look out for our weekly changing 'Burger of the Week', 2-4-1 burgers on Monday and Tuesday, plus our £10 lunch deal Monday-Friday.

STRAY NEIGHBOUR

"Some of the things on the menu, we couldn’t even pronounce,” says co-founder of a new venue, Andrew Chew.

We’re talking about Preston, where Chew (of the nearby Chew Burgers) just opened a restaurant and bar named Stray Neighbour with friends Ben (also a co-owner of Chew Burgers) and Dan Stray.

“We knew if we opened a bar, it’d just be another place serving ‘parmas and burgers,” he says.

Here, the chefs switch up the menu every couple of months to reflect what’s in season and the single-page dinner menu makes things simple: small plates or large ones.

The tapas-style dishes were good for sharing: the duck egg arrived in a crisp breadcrumb coating, while succulent chorizo chunks oozed unctuous juices, accompanied by prawns and padrón peppers (although these lacked real flavour).

Small haddock chunks and peas gave it subtle bite, and shavings of chives and cheese added extra layers to every soothing mouthful.

The cumin-roasted cauliflower steak (bathed in date honey and served with harissa kale) worked beautifully: the sweetness was balanced with a slight spiciness, and the scattered roasted hazelnuts gave good crunch.

Dessert was decent – the pistachio crème brûlée had a good, snappy top, and the so-called sticky date pudding was delectable, although it missed that medal-worthy adhesiveness.
