One thing we do have is plenty of Indian restaurants, many of which are vegetarian so it’s often possible to find vegan options there.

The Loving Hut does a pan-Asian influenced menu including Mock duck, ‘chicken’ satay, stir fries, Thai and Vietnamese dishes, vegan dim sum, veggie burgers for those who aren’t keen on Asian food, plus milkshakes, juices and desserts.

Vanilla Black is a very posh vegetarian restaurant with modernist plating (asymmetric, powders, droplets, shards and fragments) with a vegan menu also.

The chef Andrew Dargue is doing refined vegan food, and it’s the sort of place you can take your parents or have a business meeting at.

Nama Foods is an entirely vegan and raw food (no cooking above 42 degrees) menu.

The wine list started at £25 and went all the way up to £1,200 in price, though it was nice to see that there were several bottles under £40.

Sample labels were Azienda Agricola Bandut di Giorgio Colutta Pinot Grigio of mysterious vintage at £30 for a bottle that you can find in the high street for £16, Vietti Castiglione Barolo 2012 at £60 compared to its retail price of £38, and Salette Amarone della Valpolicella 2012 at a very reasonable £85 for a wine that will set you back £80 in a shop.

Tagliatelle Bolognese featured very good pasta that was made fresh, and a bolognese sauce that had plenty of flavour.

Service was good, the Neapolitan restaurant manager formerly having worked both in Lyon and at a Japanese restaurant in London.

I think there are improvements to be made here, but this is already a good restaurant.

Marcella, Deptford: restaurant review | Foodism

Marcella might be all about that Brit-Italian fusion, but their wine list is strictly Italian through and through Marcella, with its sparing interiors, vintage Italian posters and bar stools, might feel more like a slice of central Italy than Deptford High Street.

The drinks list is all Italian, from wine (go for the fresh, lively montepulciano and sangiovese blend from Rosso Piceno in the 'calf' of Italy), to classic cocktails and aperitivi.

A mix of small plates, pasta dishes and larger mains means you can share your way around the menu pretty easily.

Dishes change throughout the week, but simple, fried artichoke served with smooth aioli and topped with nutty parmesan is a mainstay for a reason.

Small plates from £7; wine from £3.60 by the glass.

Nothing seems to comfort quite like Italian cuisine, with its bold flavours, satisfying textures and wholesome ingredients.

It’s this combination that makes it so addictive, and at Pomodoro, they really have it down pat.

The menu includes all the classic Italian dishes you know and love, including lasagna, penne salmone, risotto frutti di mare, fusilli putanesca and more.

For an Italian feast to remember, Pomodoro is your best bet.
