Le Querce

Le Querce | Fine Italian Dining

We came here for New Year’s Eve dinner, with my two brother and their partners.

We were a tiny bit apprehensive because the restaurant managed to fit 6 of us in at very short notice.

The staff were all exceptionally welcoming and friendly, and every single thing we tried from the special New Year menu was spot on – from the freshly prepared salad based starters to the astonishingly good home made ice cream in a range of innovative flavours.

We live only 300 metres from this restaurant, and have walked past it many times – but we’ll be back soon.

Why is it impossible to find those cheap mom-and-pop type places, like you might stumble across in an Italian backstreet, where the décor is plain but everything comes from the heart?

That bit of outer-Lewisham is known to outsiders - if at all - only as the home of an outstanding modern Indian restaurant, and Babur remains the only place to attract the eye in a dismal street.

And this place turns out to be the antidote to everything that's wrong with a modern dining-out scene, obsessed with design, glitz and celebrity.

are absolutely exceptional - well up there with top places in the West End.

Admittedly, the style of this place is so unassuming that you'd have to be a manic Italophile to cross town for it.

The suburb is a halfway spot between one of my best friend and my homes so we are gradually working our way through the bars and restaurants in the area.

As I cook Italian so often at home, I don’t often eat it when I go out, so I’m always looking for that extra ‘something’ when I seek out Italian restaurants to frequent.

The concept seems to be recreating the essential Italian dining experience – great food and wine and sharing the experience with friends and family.

I ordered Prawn Pasta off the specials, while my friend opted for Costata di Manzo Inglese (English Striploin Steak with diced Aubergines all’agrodolce).

I would highly recommend Le Querce for an experience of authentic Italian dining and at a reasonable price too.

Although it doesn't look particularly special, and the decor is somewhat uninviting, this place serves wonderful food!

Don't be put off by the lack of a printed menu on display in the window (I was).

Once inside you'll be given a long list of options including many daily specials, and there's certainly no lack of choice or quality.Don't miss the FABULOUS ice-cream and sorbets - a huge choice of homemade and often eccentric flavours (savoury and sweet).

If you have any liking for ice-cream at all, this is worth making a detour for...
