,Diyarbakir is a friendly, family run, Kurdish restaurant in the heart of Green Lanes, Harringay.

We often travel to Green Lanes, for some of London’s best Turkish and Kurdish restaurants.

My son’s tutor who happens to be Turkish, recommended we try his favourite restaurant, Diyarbakir.

We ordered Platter No. 1, which is their smallest mixed grill (for two people), and comes with a couple of cold meze and a salad.

I’ve tried so many at other restaurants that are either not cooked through or have hardly anything inside, but these were just right, with melt in the mouth pastry and  a tasty filling.

Prima Doners, the Guardian's top-notch headline, sums up perfectly the folk recognised last night at the 2015 British Kebab Awards.

As you might expect, London found itself covered in glory.

Here are the city's restaurants that walked away with gongs from last night's ceremony.

Diyarbakir Kitchen, review: as much lamb as you can shake a kebab at

From the doorstep, Diyarbakir Kitchen is a game of two halves.

At the very heart of Green Lanes – London’s Little Turkey – Diyarbakir Kitchen serves up kebab in any formation or combination you can divine.

Lamb comes diced, minced, from chops to ribs, on pide (Turkish pizza), in bread parcels with cheese and tomato sauce and frequently drizzled with hot butter: sorry vegetarians, this is one for the carnivores.

Portions are more than adequate and almost everything comes with generous lashings of salad and hot grilled pita – it appears sporadically and willingly and you’re not quite sure what warranted it but you’re pleased to see it.

Take note: there are two much-lauded Diyarbakirs in the vicinity – this is the one where comfort food best matches comfortable dining.

Even by Green Lanes standards, Diyarbakir, named after an Anatolian city, offers exceptional value.

The freebies alone are substantial: a tart, lively salad of mint, onion, tomatoes and fresh spinach in a pomegranate dressing; a huge bowl of cacik; and plenty of slightly glazed bread with a rich, buttery flavour.

We were intrigued to see saksuka on the menu, which (unlike the similarly named North African dish) contains no egg, but tomatoes, aubergine and potatoes; the Diyarbakir version is garlicky and, of course, served in a vast portion.

The addition of croûtons in a buttery tomato sauce gave the halep kebab main course a slightly odd texture, but the minced lamb was plentiful and vigorously spicy.

Chicken sis, served with grilled tomatoes, green peppers, rice and salad, also hit the spot.
