GO London Newsletter London is to get its own version of the Polo Bar, the famous New York haunt of stars such as Barbra Streisand, Rihanna, Tom Hanks and Woody Allen.
The company said the bar’s design had been “inspired by” the Polo Bar in Manhattan, which famously has gold basins in the lavatories and is one of the most difficult places in New York to secure a table.
It’s a very beautiful place, calling to mind grand Parisian hotels of the 20s and 30s, bottles winking from the bar, staff floating through with their finery and litres of charm.
The old tube tiles on the walls, the beautiful parquet floor, the copper tops and silvery black ceiling make the large space a place to settle in for the night no matter your seat, while the cocktails come with oodles of thought in each one: the new menu has homemade bitters, shrubs and syrups, and it’s bloody obvious everyone behind the bar is more than a little nerdy about building drinks.
