It’s been bloody ages since I’ve posted a dog spot, hasn’t it?

This is mainly because I am REALLY slow to get my phone out and take pictures of dogs, and by the time I have they’ve walked off.

But today I saw a really love chap on the train and had ample time to photograph him (still a crappy photo though…) as I was lucky enough to stand next to him.

He was very obedient, and was happily giving everyone a subtle and gentle sniff as they boarded and disembarked the train at various stops.

He looked like a collie, but had the dimensions of a sausage dog – intriguing and very cute!

drinks

Gin is ruddy marvellous, isn’t it?

It’s my favourite spirit – a nice cool gin on a sunny afternoon is unsurpassable.

Here are some gin facts for you (I like gin, suck it up): – Gin is made with juniper berries – London gin doesn’t have to be made in London – it’s a way to make gin – Gin joints in 18th-century England allowed women to drink alongside men for the first time.

So gin became known as ‘Mother’s ruin” – Gin and tonics were invented in colonial India when they found the quinine in tonic water was effective in preventing malaria.

Soldiers added gin to tonic water to make it more palatable Are we having fun yet or what?!

Petek Restaurant Review - Finsbury Park Area - What's on London

Anyway, as we were absolutely starving, we decided to look around, less than a minute-walk from Nando’s, there was a restaurant called Petek.

The Finsbury Park/Green Lanes area is full of kebab shops for those late night munchies, however I knew I wasn’t going to find a mysterious meat  “Mixed donner” here… I was drawn in to Petek by the fact that there were loads of reviews and recommendations in the window from various newspapers and websites, so surely it had to be good, right?

I’ve noticed recently that many restaurants have been charging for bread that they force upon the table, thankfully Petek is not one of these.

One thing I must mention about Petek is the pricing, it is very affordable, with the starters being roughly £4.95 and the mains at £7.95 and onwards.

Petek is without a doubt, one of my new favourite restaurants – friendly staff, affordable prices and good food, what more could you want?

But there are too many lights – the place felt like a furniture showroom – and the lack of music didn’t help matters.

Large green olives, pillowy soft bread and a fiery chilli sauce appear within moments of arriving, and the starters impress: houmous made with just the right amount of oil and lifted by pomegranate seeds, and a white cheese börek with perfectly light pastry.

The köfte main was first-rate; a splash of yoghurt took the edge off the chilli mixed into the minced lamb.

Grilled chicken with aubergine sauce was devoured with equal relish: its sauce as smooth and smoky as a Lebanese moutabal dip.

Petek is a busy, friendly, industrious local restaurant – but easy on the lighting, please.
