The Old Red Lion – 42 Kennington Park Road SE11 4RS | 020 7735 4312
Across the road from Kennington Tube station, on bustling Kennington Park Road, The Old Red Lion has been described by one of our locals as an ‘oasis of a pub’.
Like all good pubs, The Old Red Lion takes its beer very seriously!
They are in a state of perpetual change as our philosophy is that there are ‘too many beers in the world to stick to one, and we must endeavour to try them all’.
With this in mind, we have an exciting international bottled beer range; the best of the U.S, Germany and Belgium make The Old Red Lion a great home for beer lovers.
To keep you entertained throughout the week we have a Pub Quiz on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month which is always friendly, challenging but attainable and The Folk Sessions on the third Thursday has a reputation for quality and excellence on the live music circuit.

We would love you to visit The Old Red Lion.
The leather sofas round the log fire are so lovely on the cold autumn and winter evenings.
You must come and have a meal or sit and have a drink in the Green Room, which we have recently refurbished.
The Welland Valley is one of the most beautiful areas of the Midlands and there's nothing like a summer evening stroll along one of the many footpaths and bridleways, finishing off with supper and drinks at The Old Red Lion.

Great Expectations review at the Old Red Lion, London
food
Joshua Asare as Pip in Great Expectations at Old Red Lion Writer and director Tom Crowley’s felicitous 21st century adaptation of Great Expectations turns Dickens’ beefy Bildungsroman into two hours of funny, gripping theatre, staged with inventive economy in the petite confines of the Old Red Lion.
The set comprises simple white shelving units that suggest the interiors of Pip’s cramped council flat in Kent and the swanky London apartment into which he moves when bestowed, by an unnamed benefactor, with a bulging bank account and a full scholarship to study law at LSE.
As Pip, Joshua Asare winningly modulates from uncertain youth with an Estuary twang to patrician Pimlico student, beset by ambition and self-doubt.
He’s also oafish Orlick, here reimagined as a sexually resentful colleague of Pip’s police sergeant mother Jo Gargery (Sarah Thom).
Full of clever detail (Magwitch is Polish mercenary Magwycz), this is thoughtful, witty theatre.
Fox at the Old Red Lion Theatre | Theatre review – The Upcoming
food
Fox at the Old Red Lion Theatre | Theatre review The cosy space of the Old Red Lion Theatre is the perfect setting for telling an intimate story, and Harrison Rose’s Fox, a look inside the dynamics of a difficult relationship, could find no better venue to draw the audience in.
The story is told from Stefan’s perspective, who watches Rachel spiral downwards, clueless as to what lies beneath her aggressiveness.
Vilanova and Whomsley do a fair job as the troubled couple, but the monotone rhythm of continuous fights (spread across too many short scenes) offers no stimuli, and the scenarios are often overdramatic.
Fox is at the Old Red Lion Theatre from 26th September until 14th October 2017.

Old Red Lion | Bars and pubs in Kennington, London
food
Try and look beyond the black and white half-timber frames, the leaded windows and the sheer sloping roofs because, inside, it’s actually quite a cosy pub.
This former locals’ hangout and Charrington pub has been recently taken under the wing of the same people who own the Dogstar, Balham Bowls Club and the Tooting Tram and Social, among others.
The acutely traditional interior – complete with two separate bars – has been given a spring clean with a rather kitsch and eclectic feather duster.
It remains to be seen whether the young folk of Kennington can bolster business in the same way they’ve done at the Balham Bowls Club, but it deserves a visit if you’re local.
There’s the usual range of yellow lager fizz with cask lovers restricted to two choices – Doom Bar & Purity Ubu.
